Been trying to play this since the back half of alpha and its, for lack of further knowledge, unbearable in its current state.

The interface is clunky at best. The story introduced at the beginning of the game hits a dead end after what could be called your first real quest. The controls for keyboard/mouse are not fully implemented.

This is not saying the game will not be polished to an extreme when it is released, but rather to warn you that this beta is not just 'games done, lets see if the servers can handle a lot of people.' I expect that if there is ever an open beta, the game will include all of the features i mentioned it is lacking.

"for lack of further knowledge"

to clarify myself... I have not been able to advance any character past 'level 2' because there is not enough direction, and the interface is difficult to navigate, so I get frustrated and refuse to explore blindly until i stumble upon wherever the next quest begins.

So what game are you playing? I don't think your playing the same game we are.

If you really don't know anything, it would be wise to goto the forums and ask. Or read some of the material they have left.

Its not really that difficult. Some things need to be changed but it's getting there.

Not to sound rude, but it sounds like you came from World of Warcraft where the game holds your hold with all the yellow ! showing you where to go. While this is a nice feature, Square Enix does not use it.

You will have to actually go around and explore the world. Talk to npcs, see what their story is. See if they need your help with quests. I know this concept is hard to grasp, but this game will not hold your hand. You will have to venture out into the world of Eorzea and explore it.

Some games will simply not reach out and grab you.

Curious to see what's with the fuss about Eve, I got a trial from a friend many months ago. I felt the tutorial was poorly done and did not excite me about the game, so I just got out of the game and uninstalled it without completing the tutorial.

Hence, I understand why you'd quit the game before progressing further. I'm cautiously optimistic about FF14 and hope to see an open beta soon.

Awesome, hope some of you make it in.

FYI, Phase 2 is over and Phase 3 begins mid-august. So within a couple weeks the whole game, or most of it will be live for us to test.

Sweetness. I will be overjoyed if I get in the beta.

Good luck, comrades; the FFXIVCore giveaway thread is 165 pages long as of this writing.

I think it's public knowledge that SE don't do beta tests the way other developers do beta tests. You'll get to see the very small part of the world and the content that they have partitioned off for testing and that's that. Still a lot more interesting than not seeing anything, of course.

And if there's an Open Beta I will eat my floppy wizard hat.
