Net Dragon announces development of Transformers MMO

It's certainly not a new idea -- the concept of a Transformers MMO is one that's attractive to a lot of fans.

It looks like those fans will be getting their wish -- Chinese game developer Net Dragon has entered a licensing agreement with Hasbro to produce that very thing. The news is very recent, of course, but we have a few important details. The game is scheduled to launch in 2011, and will be available in "China and Asia, including Russia, the CIS member states, the Middle East and North Africa region."

There's no word on release in other areas, but we'll keep our eyes open for more news. For the time being, you can check out the press release on the Net Dragon site (English translation).

Can I be Sideswipe?

I have been asking for this for like 10 years. even more so since the movies came out.

I could have sworn that shawn had these guys on the massively speaking podcast a while back, talking about interesting programing and a small dev team.

But i could be confused, but there has already been some press about this.

Unless someone else has rights to it too, because i could have sworn they were Icelanders or something like that.

If it has absolutely nothing to do with Michael Bay or the 'movies' he makes consider me slightly interested.

Movie-based games are bad enough. A movie-based MMO?! If this is supposed to come out in 2012, I guess we know what will make the world end.

you there was many television shows before the movie right? meaning the movies are based off the show, so technically speaking the mmo is based of the IP and shows

You're right. Its definitely the two-decades old television shows that have sparked the recent increase in popularity of the Transformers IP.

@Havok hey jackhole, I hate to break it to you but the Michael Bay abominations (save for Megan Fox's Crotch) are a puss filled wound on the ass of the IP. Millions of thirty somethings (read: guys w/ money) would disagree with your well thought out argument.

the only transformers i watch was the cgi animated beast wars. where all the transformers seem to land on earth and took over animals and dinosaur bodies.

i want to be ratrap!

If it's done well, it could be great. Imagine the customization options, inherent travel powers due to the type of transformer, evolution of a relatively simple transfomer into something more powerful, transformation animation, emotes, etc...

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. I meant, "They're going to make a Transformers MMO and NOT put it out in a country where it is incredibly popular. That's just stupid. I.E. unwise as to the making of money.

Chinese game developer + game is not primarily targeted at the Wester markets. What does that tell you? Its going to be a typical Asian, grindy, uninspired 'copy every mmo cliche under the sun' MMO. Sorry if I'm bursting anyone's bubble here.

On the other hand and with some though behind it, a REAL, not driven solely by greed Transformers MMO would be a blast.

Guys, you do realize that netdragon is the developer behind , conquer online, eudemons, zero, warlords and hommo? now what to expect from the game....i wonder....
