I have to agree that Ultima Online has the best crafting. One of the first MMOs and still top dog for crafting.

Fallen Earth, for me. I hated the game, but love the crafting.

Star Wars Galaxies was the best without any doubt.

I'm not really sure what some people are thinking seeing a few that were mentioned. It is like they have no mmo experience and just stated the game they play the most. I can't say SWG was the best game ever, but I can say the crafting system was the best out of any other mmo.

I've 'crafted' in both SWG and EVE and taking into account every element required, EVE's system is the more complex and rewarding of the two. In terms of overall economy and market system, there is no competition, EVE blows every other mmo out of the water.

That being said it's down to each individual which is their personal fav, hence the posts for WoW and the like i'm guessing.

Any crafting system where you have to make junk to level up to get to the good stuff is just bad.

Pirates of the Burning Sea had some great ideas on crafting which sadly didn't quite work out but probably still the best I've experienced.

SWG was awesome and, like someone else reminded in their post here, APB has so many possibilities and really takes talent.

This.

ATitD is a game about crafting, trading and community and you'll be hard pressed to find a game with a better crafting system. Hundreds of plants for foraging, a huge number of objects and buildings to construct, and then there is the University of Art.

I don't honestly think thier is ONE crafting system that is the best; instead there are some elements of some systems that are excellant.

I like lotro's basic crafting setup, it is detailed enough to provide variety without being overly complicated and what is created is always pointful.

I liked SWG's crafting system for allowing us to experiment with the end results and also for covering things like, housing, and vehicles, and pets.

Runes of Magic is the best I've seen. And while the game itself sucks, APB's "crafting" system is the most advanced I've ever seen.

Fallen Earth has the best crafting. Not only for the xp for harvesting material, but what you craft is better than what drops.

Lotro is also very decent in its crafting.

I think the worst crafting is in Hero games Like CoH or Champions. Very pointless and confusing.

Even though I love CoH, I have to agree the crafting is horrible. Neither CO or CoH provide the player with any substantial non-combat gameplay. And yes, CO crafting is just plain confusing.

I don't have any real opinion on others since I didn't play the games long but I thought EQII and WoW had better crafting. Played EVE for only the first month so never got that deep into the game.

I would say EQ2 is the best system that I've played. Second on my list would have been SWG (I played when it first came out).

I've never played Eve or Vanguard, though.

Ultima Online, nothing has beaten that yet. Some have come close, but still nothing has beaten UO.

So not true.

Despite UO's crafting being better than most MMO's people play now, WURM's crafting makes UO's seem pitiful in comparison.

There are some smaller games with deep crafting systems too, Illarion, Haven & Hearth, those both have deep crafting systems that make most MMO's seem like nothing.

UO's is definitely nice, but it's not the best. Wurm's not only is better and deeper, but you also can eventually build up enough to do it all yourself - rather than hitting skill caps that stop you from learning in other areas. You assemble so many different parts and have to make each and every one of them too. Just to assemble floor boards or pieces of ships is pretty deep.

As for standard MMO's, I thought Vanguard's was the best of the light crafting in games like WoW, Aion, etc. You had to use skills while crafting and watch very close what was going on to use them at the right time.

LOTRO crafting was incredibly bland to me. Sure you had a chance to make something special when crafting, but there just wasn't enough variety to allow you to be any different from any other crafter.

In SWG there was so much variability when making an item that it was nearly impossible to make an item with the same stats twice, unless you used the same materials for creation.

I'm sure the item database was a nightmare to maintain, but it makes everything else I've ever played shallow and boring by example. I wish I knew who designed the bioengineering stuff, it would be nice to follow their career :)

one of the aspects of ffxi i liked was the cursed armor sets

to get the armor piece you need to combine 2 items one is drop from "boss" and the other is crafted
when synthesizing the crafted one you got a chance to get high quality item that leads to better version of the armor piece which sometimes worth x20 the normal one.
its perfect solution for crafted vs boss drop
