I forgot to add this little link with a Darkfall Online Battle. The armor and weapons used by the player, are ~comparable with the 2 best Tier set in WoW. He lost it at the end of the battle/siege ;-/

One thing should be taken into account.

CCP support have different ticket response times in relationship to ticket type.

For example ticket regarding missions will be processed instantly wheres ticket regarding ship losses to the game glitches will take some time (few days usually).

Also like seen in DF example older players will never get they stuff back unless they are lost to DB errors, everything else is considered under normal game play.

Also response time is faster for new players, older ones are usually already hooked up ;)

Also of note:

Darkfall ingame support:

/Gm_Help - support ticket
/GM_Report - reporting AFK macro's hacks, etc...

both in-game.
gm_help responds in minutes, not hours like most games.

as others have said, darkfall chat system is little used by most. Clan/Clan Alliance and Ventrillo are MUCH more used.

also there is NEW (on both servers) that servers like EVE UNI does.

and as other have said - there are 3 racial alliances, not 2.
i suggest a small... edit. due to factually incorrect information.

darkfall has many faults. but it's support department is most definetly not one.

on to PUGS:
most people wont pug with a stranger, PvE/PvP is impossible to coordinate without voice due to the fast-paced nature of darkfall, and on top, why would someone trust yuo to not kill them the moment you can?

I dont play either game anymore, and really font have a favorite, however from a strictly emperical data gathering perspective the chat channel questions case was not an equal comparison. Unfortunately there is no equal comparison between the games. It seems you went into the EVE help channel, while darkfall does not have such thing. So therefore asking newb questions or asking for help will obviously garner more response from a help channel then a general racial channel for all levels of players.

A more similar comparison would have been the newb corp channel since it is segregated similar to how darkfall race channels are. Unfortunately even that isnt a true comparison as the newb corp is more new person orientated and darkfall is people all over the place on the skill spectrum.

Either way i'd say all in all you did the best you can but i think given the degree of difference in the way the chat is set up the comparison should have been inadmissible.

So I bought DF and it was virtually unplayable. I asked for a refund after not getting any tech support. They refused the refund and banned my account just for asking for a refund. I had 28 days of playtime left from my $30 game purchase when they banned me.

Not a Fan...........

You can call BS if you want, but, that's what happened. In big letters on my DF log in it says: "Your account is permanently banned from Darkfall for the following reason: Refund Dispute "

It makes me sick.

Yea I definitely call BS on this one. Show us a screenshot before you slander Darkfall like that. Also, thank you for reviewing Darkfall, however this was an EXTREMELY biased review of the game. None the less, publicity is good no matter what the means are. Many players try to help others in Darkfall. Most I'd say. However, there are a few bad apples that totally dominate the race chat channels. And there is A LOT for a veteran to tell a newer player when it comes to guidance. Hell, my hands get tired typing to 1 or 2 noobs telling them what their options are in terms of PvP viable character development. And tips on amassing wealth, etc. Anyways, Darkfall would be a GREAT game for the niche its going for if it had some good, solid publicity from a well known blog or gaming forum. If you find you like Darkfall, please write something good about it. Also, if you read the TOS it clearly says there is a no refund policy. Other games are much more item centric, so obviously you'll be able to refund items. Also, in Darkfall, once you've deleted an item, even on accident, you can get it back by killing yourself within 5 minutes. This is to counter the fact that before enemies died they would delete their items so the PKers got nothing.

Anyways, have fun in the game. :) Good, unbiased review next time please.

No offense guys, but I'm not sure some of you grasp what I'm trying to do here with these columns. This wasn't a review of Darkfall. It was a what-if experiment, the what-if being what would happen if a new player, completely unschooled in the all the little intricacies that people have mentioned in the comments, were to file a customer service ticket or attempt to interact with the community in chat.

If anything, I am biased FOR Darkfall. I want the game (and others like it) to succeed, so much so that I'm currently paying Aventurine for two accounts (with a third trial that I'm trying to convince my better half to take over) even though I really don't care for PvP.

This pro-bias was not apparent in the article because a) it wasn't a review and b) we try to keep our personal feelings out of it as much as possible.

I understand and appreciate the need some folks feel to defend their game of choice, but this column was not a review. It was simply a chronicle of what happened in a very specific set of circumstances. Trust me, it wasn't an attack on Darkfall. When I attack a game, you'll know it.

Hey Jef,

If the idea is to evaluate how good customer response is, wouldn't the ideal be to have multiple customer support tickets and then evaluate them all as a whole?

As was pointed out, there was a reason that you weren't helped out with your specific problem: items are not returned to you except in specific circumstances.

I just started playing Darkfall myself. Both of my question I have put to the support were quickly replied to. One they resolved, and even walked me through it as far as he was allowed (apparently they didn't officially support the changing of an xml file), the other the GM tried to help out with and did the best that he could, from what I gathered (sounded like a server issue relating to a troll spawn).

Look at your evaluation of Eve's support, you noted that one of your tickets wasn't even replied to and one was. I don't know how that would be a resolution of "excellent" as one of your issues wasn't even dealt with.

If you want to do an evaluation of customer support, you should have multiple issues brought up, all of them different. Then evaluate them all as a whole. A lack of a response should be handled as the lowest mark since you didn't even get a reply, much less a resolution.

Still, the article, overall, was a good read.

I actually did finally get a reply to the first EVE ticket, well after the article had gone to press. Looking back, I should have left it out of the article entirely. As I stated above in the comments, the first EVE ticket was a mistake on my part and the second one was the one I used for actual data collection.

The EVE ticket was marked excellent in the resolution column simply because they did what I asked, which is the height of customer service. They could have been a little quicker though.

I agree that Darkfall's response times are fantastic, definitely a feather in their cap, but since they couldn't restore my item, I couldn't very well say they did a fantastic job. Now, it can be argued (and was above) that players should know they can't restore items because it's a full loot game and it's in the TOS and blah blah. In reality though, since this column is simulating a newb looking at a game and filing newbish support requests, it doesn't really stand to reason that a newb would know that.

I appreciate the feedback though, the column will be tweaked over time to incorporate all of the great ideas in these comments.

Oh, and just realized I didn't state that the second issue of mine, from Darkfall, was not resolved :)

And my message was not intended to criticize, more just point out a method that I feel would be more effective in an overall evaluation.

Excellent idea for an article, can't say i've seen many similar to this so its refreshing to see something focussing on a different aspect of mmos when running a comparison.

Also helps that its based on the two games that I actively play :p

As a side note, given that DF is a full loot FFA game, its not suprising that CS is about to return lost items as it could potentially open up a pandoras box in terms of requests for them. Perhaps that should have been taken into account.

Interesting read. Just wanted to point out, in addition to the above comments by the sometimes-rabid DF fanbase, that DF now has a community ventrilo server. Check here ( http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=261396 ) for more information.

The air jordan shoes was designed by Peter Moore and marked a new era in the design of basketball shoes. The black/red model was banned by the NBA due to NBA color rules and this actually helped to create more publicity and more interest for the shoes. Whether this was a marketing ploy from Nike or not, it helped to generate the interest that, to date, has supported nineteen different cheap jordans, retro versions, and limited editions.
