+++ Purchased items with no mechanical effect, like non-combat pets, appearance gear and most house items are OK with me too.

Separating F2P and Subscribers without realistic methods to create new accounts on the Subscriber servers. Fuckin Brilliant Asshole.

Pack it up boys, time to unsubscribe. This bitch is sinking, best be jumping off while ya can.

The game is 6 years old. Pretty much everyone that wanted to pay $15 a month for it has already played it.

How many new people are there? Probably very few these days.

On the other hand, making a free version will attract a whole lot of people. Maybe some will get hooked the way they never did before and want to play the real version. Probably not a lot, but probably more than are trying the game now and staying...

Someone doesn't seem too bright. I don't see how anything mentioned would cause a single person to unsubscribe.

Grats did you just realise this ?

The game has been sinking for 2 years, now with the free servers they may be able to bring some people back..

You can't argue with free

wtf are you talking about? All the usual, existing, normal methods of subbing to legacy servers are present and correct. Your comment is as your name suggests.

What they are doing is extending the options to pay for the service, not just a one-size-fits-all subscription. More payment options will make the game attractive to a larger group of people, not just those that can and want to commit to pay a subscription fee for a long time.

People that do not play that often will likely pick up some of the lower levels of service.
Platinum level may also be something that people use for a certain period of time and then switch to a lower level, if interest fades for a bit, real life interferes etc.

@Mike

You are wrong about people not complaining, they already are. EQ2X will not increase EQ2 population, if anything it will reduce it. This has some folks on live fairly concerned. Others made it crystal clear they will be trying it and moving off EQ2 Live if its a good fit.

I'm certainly interested in trying it out and starting over and I know many others that will be more then happy to change over. I can't imagine that folks who start on this server moving over to EQ2 Live, why would they? They want the convenience of buying their way to competitiveness.

As long as the population and raid scene is robust it'll be successful.

The thing is, crafting is very popular in EQ2 Live, what the heck value does it have in EQ2X?

I've gotta say I always wondered about EQII and I'm a sub type of MMO player. I'm still pretty jaded about F2P games. There definitely needs to be transfer's open from F2P to sub servers. The one thing I really wanna say is, why are EQII players so single minded. All of the outcry against making EQII F2P lead to the developers creating this whole separate product which now they are complaining will dwindle the numbers on the classic servers. You should have been more openminded from the beginning. On the other hand, some games I won't play for free or otherwise. I tried LOTRO and DDO when they were both subscription based and the experience was so poor compared to what I had come to expect that even when they went F2P I knew I wouldn't be taking part in that.

I think ill play EQ2, but honestly is it really a smart business move to invest heavily in a game that's almost 9 years old?

I think this SOE news... is worst them the RealID and 25 dollar mount together! They make really clear here that they think that F2P players suck and just want to buy there way up (what is really true). But they are treated like other players. The guy going for the 200 dolar option much be really pissed here he pays more them the 15 bucks guys and get treated like crap by Sony...... lol and people are crying about someone using his real name to post on a forum! this is like 10 times worst.

...Are you completely retarded? This is just SOE being greedy assholes as per usual. RealID plastered your private info on the forums for *everyone on the internet* to see.
