Great. I always liked EQ2 but never quite loved it enough to stick with it. This is good. Me gusta. I can play it now.

It's a bit funny considering the previous statements, but it's hardly surprising. I find it very interesting, and inspired at the same time, that they chose to open a new server for the F2P people, while existing subscribers can play on their characters on the current servers. I might as well give this a try when the server goes live.

At least the free players will be on a separate server...

Interesting plans for the Extended server. But how is it that long time sub players don't get free SC but Platinum players do? Don't even try to cop out with the LON crap either, because that is bogus. How about letting Station Access folks decide whether they want LON packs or SC.

But seriously... didn't they just announce that they will not be going f2p like... last week or something?

Oh....

I guess this F2P thing is more successful then I thought.

Huh. I still think the whole idea of F2P is flawed, all it does is turn the game in to an extended demo, but with the added bonus of "Gratz! You just ding'd 20! Now just give us your credit card and you can start gaining experience again!"

I'd rather it be all servers. More players is more grouping is more fun. Not going to change anything on the server I play. It'd been nice to have an alt on my same server as well.

Why do they always have to put a twist that just makes it "meh" like the 5 dollar 3 day play a month accounts.

Stuff this, where is my VANGUARD free to play server?

Come on SOE, sort it out, I want VG to go free to play, it is your best game.

Yay! I'm excited for this because I was just playing the EQ II trial and I liked what I saw. Unfortunately...what I didn't see was many players around :\ I'm hoping that the F2P server gets more people interested since the lowbie zones were so lonely. Good game though, and I'll definitely check it out once it goes F2P.

question: It says in the FAQ that beta will follow alpha stage (duh) in august, and that beta servers and characters will not be wiped.

It also says on the FAQ header logo that it is in beta, but that seems unlikely due to the first comment, beta=august.

To the point: is this in open beta, and will we get to keep our characters from beta-to-live?

Very interesting idea doing it on a separate server. Kind of quells a lot of the "I don't want any f2p scrubs on MY server!" complaints.

My question is are they only going to have one f2p server that is PvE/PvP or will they have a PvE and a PvP server. If they have a PvP server option I may check it out to pass some time, I always had a bit of fun playing EQ2.

Eh woah... how is this segregation? Lol. It makes sense to have an f2p server and a p2p server honestly.

It's a bit annoying to those of us on regular servers too, actually. With this model, we won't see any increase in population, either.

Sweet, although, for the one time purchase of $10, on the freebie server, you can't even send mail? Thats odd... and hopefully more bag space is one-time purchaseable. But for the $10, and a bit more cash up front for some amenities, it sounds definitely playable.

Nice move, EQ2. :)

I think the way they are doing it is smart. I'm not terribly interested in the game, but good for them!

I don't know how to feel about this. Very mixed - all the new people get to play the game for free while I don't get to. But I can pay out the butt to transfer my character there without my in game money... Transfers cost $25 each. So main plus alts - $200 for play for free. O.o

They already have too much crap on their store for the people that pay monthly. Now...can people on the free transfer after they buy stuff for their character? Im sure they can, cause that is more money for SOE. Seems like they are just adding more confusion - As I read - I thought the free server was a great idea to draw in new people till I saw they were using it to grab cash by selling useful items. I can see the $ in SOE's eyes.

If it would have just been Free to play with a few limits here and there, and if you like the game, transfer to a real subscription server...that would have been fine.

/sigh

Well, this is awesome. I'll probably end up playing it more knowing I won't have to pay the next month. Fine with dropping money on the cash shops for things here and there, though.
