Does the code have capital letters? I haven't gotten a confirmation e-mail, and I signed up an hour ago.

From the post:

" If you are among the first 500 to sign up for the test you will get an invite from Turbine during their next wave of beta invites. Not in the first 500? Don't worry. You're still signed up for the beta and may be selected in a later phase. In short, don't expect to get in immediately, as this may take some time!"

"However, there is a catch to this code -- it can only be used for 500 Massively readers who will be invited to the beta when the next wave of invites goes out."

I'm having a blast in the beta (can I even say that under the NDA?). Turbine knows what they're doing when it comes to micro-transactions and listening to the feedback of the testers.

I'll pass on the beta (thanks anyway) because I just started on my first 30 days from the boxed edition and am having a blast. I would rather put the time into those characters than into the beta.

Only got to play the last two days of the summer festival, but at least I was able to get a few dance emotes on my characters.

For anyone new to the game, or that like me tried it and didn't sub, start out your first character as either hobbit or human. Back when I gave LoTRO a try I went with an elf and really didn't care for the dwarf and elf starting areas. The Shire and Bree-land are SO much nicer.

I had such a good time running my low levels characters to each area for the dance leaders, especially at night, dodging the occasional bear or wolf, chancing upon a get together outside the Prancing Pony, and generally just having fun exploring. Even the elf and dwarf areas were more interesting once I spent some time exploring them more (the elven zone in the pouring rain).

With the new hybrid model, LoTRO has found a permanent home on my computer.

If you read the faq, any progess you make in beta gets transferred over to main account.

@Magma - I already had some characters from a 10-day trial and had activated my account before these beta keys were offered. Figured I might as well play on the regular account I've paid for and leave the beta for others to try. Besides, I wanted to play as much of the game as possible, just to see how much it actually does change (if any) after the switch to the hybrid payment methods.

@magma FYI, any experience from beta will NOT transfer over. The only way anything will transfer is if Turbine decides to do some sort of headstart at the end of beta, and that is currently up in the air, though there is precidence from the origionsl LOTRO beta and the more recent DDO beta.

They do. If yours don't, you probably have a crap graphics card.

Yeah. The elves look that awesome with today's super computers! Of course!

Funny my elf running dx10 max settings looks nothing like that.

If Turbine does this right, LOTRO will finally be taking some money from me as my main new MMO (well, new to me that is).
