Because they still try to act like they were the first mmo to give players wings/flight, since it's the only thing the fanbois can latch onto when you ask what makes AION unique from F2P Korean grinders. Perfect World did flight with wings and aerial combat long before AION, and still do it better. And you can fly in more than just a few zones and for longer than 30 seconds.

She's wearing wings because she thinks they make her look cute. Duh.
She is cuter without but beauty without substance is well... much like Aion itself.

I play the game and yes it still is the only game out right at the moment where taking certain forts matter past the next hour or so. It does large scale pvp very well. Here's the issue that isn't really with aion itself but with humanl. Say at the start that side that won was outnumbered.. being attacked by both balaur(the pve faction) and the opposing faction.

One side(Asmo) is run by a council and they have had "some success" so the turnout is great while the defending faction is a bit on the lean side(Elyos). The other side is run by a very capable leader and supported by the top legions of the server. Through good tactics and some stupid decisions by the attacking force we rebuffed them giving us time to gather more and in the end we smashed them despite the odds..

The other side's moral is crushed(human nature) their confidence in their leadership is shaken and by the next two cycles we went from being on shaky ground in the abyss to owning it once more. For one side this was an amazingly fun experience but for the other... well it won't be so fun and it will be a long time until they can muster up enough people to make another attempt. It would have been better to have a third player race instead of the balaur.

Still one way or another.. no other game out will give you the same high that this does when a well coordinated attack or defense works. Maybe it's not skill on a personal level but it does take skill an commitment for a whole faction to work well as a team.(and ours does) That's why this game still has a good number of players. When this game is working as it should(both sides duking it out) it's brilliant but there always is that lull when the other side builds up their moral. Say what you like about the rest of the game but when it comes to sieging aion's on the top.

Too little, too late. Game is severely broken due to completely ridiculous merges. Servers are totally imbalanced.

If I were to pick, I'd pick the forced pvp from rift farming as the most important factor in Aion's decline in the western market.

Just like in Allods Online, in which the L23+ game population drops sharply in the Holy Lands, it just isn't fun to have high level pvp carebears beating lowbies in fights where it's impossible for the carebears to lose.

Aion made it worse by giving the rift farmers the ability to get superior gear, which made it near impossible for normal levelling players to kill the farmers. Yes, you could say this is all part of the game design, to which I agree. However, when players aren't having fun, they'll take their ball and go home, which brings us to server merges when the game hasn't even been out in the west for a year.

I like how everyone is dogging on this game. if you do not like it, simply, don't play. as for severely imbalanced server merges? do you play? the merges finally started to happen so, obviously, there will be some imbalance...for now...and we have a whole month until they will be over. as for the server i am on its 51 to 49% so I don't see how they are 'severely' unbalanced. This game will not fail, like Lineage 2, because it is big in Asia still so there will, still, be a game in the U.S. for awhile. You want to talk imbalance then bring up Darkfall or Warhammer, I find those two to be imbalanced more. And while I am at it I don't see why you wish for something, that has people employed, to fail. I don't wish layoffs on anyone in these hard times. I want this, and every MMO, to succeed because competition is good and, like every MMO, there are flaws. I, for one, do still play Aion and I enjoy it. I look forward to seeing the future of it.

The numbers on the server statistics are meaningless. They include alts, mules, twinks, low level players and people who do not attend sieges. They also do not indicate the equipment level of players, which in almost all the servers is skewed heavily in favor of the Elyos. Those stats have no bearing at all on whether or not a server is actually balanced.

.....Another waste of time reading this. I am still quitting aion. The devs made it sound like you could fly anywhere at launch. They claim 1.9 added content and addressed player requests but it really didnt. It just added lots more bugs (i reported em all but what do they care). Wasted my money, I'll never buy anything ncsoft ever again..
Pretty bad to say that players who are lvl 50 didnt read the quests... thats just stupid, another slap in the face to their customers.

I love how they side step the flight question again, could it just be ncsoft is lazy?

If being able to fly everywhere is making/breaking the game for you go play Perfect World. Personally I loved the gliding - it added some fun/risk to the otherwise boring activity of running to the next PvE area.

I forgot to mention. I do play...and the server merges have caused pvp to become unbalanced, the player community is screaming about it on the official forums, as well as many other issues like server lag due to the server merges making pvp pretty much pointless, not matter how amazing your computer is. With an average ping 4k, i dont care what your comp is, it won't work. The game has simply gone down the tubes, its junk.

@BetrayalFive Thanks for being the only one who actually supports a game that is good. 99% of you who comment should be ashamed of yourselves; half the shit you spew out is/are problems on your end and not the game itself. Plenty of us, have and do play the game just fine and SHOCKINGLY quite enjoy it. With regards to the endless whine about imbalance...you can eat your words cause the most imbalance is a 47% - 53% split which ISN'T even that bad. The rest are either 49%-51% or an even 50%-50%. So unless you want to look stupid enough to deny the figures on their official website then be my guest, but you're wrong.

Sure, I'll admit it probably isn't accurate to a tee because there will remain to be a significant amount of movement until everyone is settled but it's in not in the horrid state most you of swear it to be. Look at games like Warhammer and then ask yourself what game is failing? I actually hope Aion goes the Lotro F2P-style route in the future and then you people can watch how it will boom with people. Finally, at least wait until the free x-pac before you /ragequit uninstall...god people are so pathetic sometimes.

What makes me laugh is that WAR already had these problems (server imbalances, gear imbalances, server merges, mega-zergs) a year ago, yet NCsoft learned nothing from Mythic's trials and tribulations. Ironically, I feel like WAR has a brighter future than Aion in the west...I never thought I'd say that.

The game is not that bad at all. I personally like grind-mmos, and i enjoy the pace of Aion, Its a challenge and not a race 2 level as fast as you can so you can get 2 the end game, which is lacking, but so are most games at the end. But it is obvious the devs of Aion are trying to fix its short-comings,by fixings its game system and adding content. like give these people a break, at least they haven't pulled a real ID forums on their community, like blizzard tried 2 do.

5 more levels of questing? I find that hard to believe. I seriously doubt you can level to 55 questing. I'd be surprised if you could ding 1 level from questing after my experiences playing the game.

2.0 + a PvE server would be the only thing to get me back - i like PvP but i dont like getting ganked by high level/ twinked players in PvE zones while leveling - let me choose when i want to PvP

Food for thought for everyone that says this game will fail: this game has millions of subscribers in Asia. It's the dominating MMO in Korea, and is making boatloads of cash. The game will never fail financially, and will always be running here regardless of how many people leave. I think people sometimes like to forecast impending failure to try to get other players to leave, misery loves company. Most players see failure as a dwindling server pop and the eventual shut down, and noone likes the idea of spending time on a character that might be erased. That's why I make this post: there will always be enough of a niche to support a couple FULL Aion servers, I'm sure of that. Two servers is usually a very bad sign but ncsoft is making 10's of millions a month from this game overseas, it will go on, and I suspect 2.0 will be pretty cool as they are motivated (and have the cash) to keep their millions of subscribers in Asia.
