TERA's political system continues to be shrouded in mystery, and whether it's a proper MacGuffin or some sort of public-relations red herring designed to simultaneously titillate and obfuscate is unclear. One thing that is clear is the fact that En Masse Entertainment representatives are reluctant to do much beyond tease the fact that the system exists. The latest example comes via an interview with community director Jason "BrotherMagneto" Mical over at World of TERA.
Mical talks briefly about the level of player freedom inherent in the system. "I suppose the level of freedom will in some part depend on who gets elected. Some leaders might be benevolent, while others might become outright tyrants. Some who start with the best of intentions will probably end up tyrants. In other words, it's going to be a bit like real politics," he says. He goes on to state that PvP will influence TERA's political system quite a bit, referencing Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton "on a much larger and more common scale."

I really don't think Tera is going to be a that good of a game. Looks very Aion ish. Just sayin.

It's not going to be close to Aion. It will be leaps and bounds beyond it. Aion is a game where 1 faction has the easy life and is catered to. Elyos faction dominates all but 1 server. Tera is going to have more in common with WoW with battlegrounds, it's not going to be a huge grind that Aion is. You should read the forums and look at what some of the focus test group people say about it.

I agree Stu, I recall everyone hyping up Aion like it was going to be this amazing Korean MMO that would blow everything away. We all know how that worked out, now there are people hyping up yet another Korean MMO. When will people ever learn? Tera looks nice, but Aion looked nice, too.

Sorry, nay-sayers--this game is NOTHING like Aion. I have an Aion account, and have been play the game off and on since its NA release. I've had the pleasure of playing this game today at the San Diego Comic Con. Combat is fluid, tactile and nothing like any MMO-style currently out there.
It truly is an Action-MMO, and from what I've experienced in my gameplay today, you have so many options that GRIND isn't even a whisper unless you want it to be.
My suggestion to you is to try it yourself once the beta becomes available, I guarantee your perspectives will change. :)

What many of you don't know is that yes it's a Korean MMO but Bluehole Studios have given En Masse (the US running our show, not some lame korean company ordering their branch around) the 100% go ahead to change things they see fit to make the game westernized. They have added more quests. Hell they claim you can do nothing but quests and reach max level. The fight mechanics are quite nice compared to other games. You can actually swing and miss and fall on your face and get stomped. You can hold buttons down to make your moves stronger and much more. Go to their site and read up. Aion was hyped by morons and all the US/EU got was a korean game that wasn't westernized at all. NCsoft is god awful in running a company outside of Korea and it shows. En Masse at least is doing and saying everything right so far. But from having seen the gameplay and talked with testers of the game I have no doubt the game will be a success.

So this will not be another Aion where all development is done in Korea and where patches are tested there also ? Then much later patches for EU/NA.

I don't really like the comments about "the level of player freedom." Getting to cap to find out your vulnerabilty to PvP depends on the political systems in game is rough. Look at player reaction to EVE. Many don't put themselves in that kind of situation.
Considering how much of a disaster Aion's PvP systems wound up being, they should tread carefully.

I like it! It is fun and random, something unexpected might happen one moment and be gone the next moment.

Yay for more uninformed "Tera = Aion" comments. Either get info or keep opening your mouth and look foolish. What next, "oh this is Korean so it'll be all grind!!!"
