You guys have convinced me to cancel my cable.

Now what do I do with my newly acquired free time?

Maybe play STO?

I like the Turbine model. You can get most of their shop items by working at it in-game, but you can buy it up front to save the effort. And there aren't really any game breakers and real meaty content is available for sale, like quest lines.

Why are there even payments required for cosmetic items in a P2P game? Besides the fact people will pay for it?

That alone is reason enough, I guess. If it is to pay for someone to actually design up the item and some profit, why do we have sub fees then?

Does it just come down to the fact accept the double-dip? Right now I can not find a P2P game that doesn't have this type of action going on so I'm pretty much forced to quit playing games that I would otherwise like if not for its business plan. One could argue that this is just a way of infomerical price games. 4 easy payments of 4.99$ a month sounds like a deal.

I can see how P2P games sound bad to players that really don't plan on staying long term. Get in, get bored, get out before you have to pay does have its bonuses.

Have the operating costs of these types of games gone up or down compared to the costs to run an airline? I could argue that Airlines also can sort of be classified as a "need' rather than a leisure item. Which would allow them to price more aggressively.

I'd like to see gamers in general at least join together instead of just purely raging against others based on their "hardcore, casual, f2p, p2p" status.

You guys need to cancel your STO accounts, rather than sit there subscribing and complaining. If they go mass cancellations, they'd actually listen to your complaints, rather than people who complain and threaten and still play.

Personally as soon as they put items in the C-Store that were supposed to be for special version pre-orders only, I cancelled right then. You need to hit them in their wallet, not just complain, only then will they either have to listen, or turn the game totally F2P and then they can do what they want with their stupid C-Store.

Cryptic is horrible at double dipping in your wallet. I'm just really sick of them and have no intent of playing anything they release unless they change their policies. If you guys all did the same and really hurt their bottom line, you'd help force them to change one way or the other.

I'm guessing a large percentage of whoever is left are lifers (based on the ratio of posters on the forums) and can't quit.

I knew that c-store was going to go out of control when they started charging for frickin emotes lol.

Well I for one am currently not paying for any Cryptic products, and with the advent of this crap, I do believe that not even the pet pass in champions online will bring me back. Greedy bastards... even trying to cash in on the $25 mount crazy.

And for the record, cable pricing is retarded and probably indicative of what'll happen to the internet should corporations ever get to set their own policies. Paying $40 a month for access to 'standard' websites, and probably something stupid like $60 a month for 'premium' websites, and $100 a month for unlimited access.

And don't get me started on airplanes. Used to get free meals on them if they were long flights, and sodas and snacks were guaranteed, and if there was a movie, it was free to watch. Now? $5 for a pair of headphones. Sucker. Hope you brought your own.

Unfortunately Ryan,

The "we're bored" mentality is hardly a major reason why there are eruptions CONSISTENTLY happen.

People have been following STO since the days of Perpetual, and have been active on the game's forums since they opened (like myself). It is a continual string of blunders, forays, blights, fiascos, and hullabaloo that have done well to destroy the confidence of even some of Cryptic's most dedicated fanbois. A select few remain, we people refer to as the CDF (Cryptic Defense Force).

Having been there since near the start, I can with good reason say, that all this hatred toward Cryptic is due to:

- Smearing the name of a beloved franchise with a sub-par game (STO)
- Deceptive Marketing Practices
- Going back on their word
- Mistreatment of prominent community members (I'm talking about blatantly clear mistreatment)
- Constant sugar coating and endless promises made by Cryptic staff
- And the fact that precious resources are being dedicated to the C-Store when the core game itself is obviously and painfully shallow.
- The many spurious fiascos spun by Cryptic's marketing department
- Censorship of reasonably articulate and respectful critics
- Absolutely, bar-none HORRENDOUS customer support (which is now virtually non-existent)

I realize the list is general, but I'm not wanting to write an essay here. If anyone wants the specific low downs, you can write me: jacobflowers7@gmail.com

The sad part is, I went for the lifetime sub. Lesson, learned.

Ha, so did I. I still really like the ship combat but so far I haven't been able to bring myself to level even one character beyond Lieutenant Commander.

Oh, and while I've used the C-Store I have only used the points that I got free with the subscription.

My main game is LOTRO, which apparently will be giving me free points per month as a lifetime subscriber - so hopefully there again I won't have to top up the points balance at all.

Jacob is speaking the gospel. It has been one calamity after another with Cryptic. I too have been following STO since the Perpetual days.

Sometimes I wonder if they have someone who's job it is to simply piss off customers. The reason for this of course is that it is some sort of a twisted social gaming experiment and Cryptic is really a front for a research lab run by a nefarious government agency.

At least in that situation it all makes sense. We can dream cant we???

I don't mind paying a fee for something extra. Problem is that Cryptic want money for what they have taken out of the game, as well as trying to milk the loyal star trek fans with increasing greed. The game sucks mostly, so this makes it worse.
