Just my opinion but I think SOE makes Cryptic look good.

Cryptic, at least, appears to be trying to improve the games that they have instead of cranking out new ones and letting their older ones rot.

Not trying to play the fanboy here, but.... SWG was pretty good before the crappy update, I agree. The post about letting older games rot while making new ones... I have to disagree. Eq is still getting updates after what.... 11 years? and Eq2 is still releasing expansions and updates after 6 years, even though it probably has half the population it used to. Vanguard (arguably one of its weakest games) just had an expansion.... I think the matrix online (which was taken over but not originally an soe game) is the only one that was cancelled.
My 2 cents on that matter....

Dude, that never friggin happened. Nothing in the C-Store was previously a preorder item. I don't see the insectoid wings, the jester hat, the skewer helm, the special edition defender action figure, the foxbat action figure, the retro future costume set, the aret deco costume set, the antigrav flight ability.....
None of these preorder bonuses are in the C-Store for champions online.

I'm assuming you're talking about STO? I wouldn't know about that game, so I'm assuming so. Even if you were, how can you say SOE is better? They might do the same thing the imaginary evil version of cryptic in your head did once DCUO is out for three months.

Smedley and Emmert. A simple three word sentence describing developers who will never see another cent of my money. Ever. When those two get involved in anything the product turns to absolute crap. They're right up there with Kotick as despicable businessmen who lie, cheat, steal, and greed their way into destroying anything with even a remote possibility of being good.

Not another cent for you or anything you touch, Smedley. Ever.

Wow, lots of hate there bro. There are a lot of products (MMOs and otherwise) that I do not care for or dislike, but I don't go posting impassioned hate speech on any article that comes along about said products.

Just don't buy it, simple. Why the post?

I don't get it either Zan even though I expect it.

On a side note, if in fact you are new, Daemodand just introduced you to snarkiness in case you are interested.

"The big one here is that you can play as Batman -- that's a big deal, so we're trying to make sure that the people who preorder and who are the biggest fans get rewarded with that."

Unless you don't live in the US. Because we all know that outside the US there aren't any real fans that need rewarding too :(

@Dave, I think its partially a legal thing/red tape. I remember Cryptic having issues with giving away contest awards to people in the UK.

I think its disgusting that they are discriminating against UK players by including all other major countries except us (notwithstanding Australia/Asia). There certainly appears to be a grudge against the UK for some reason.

I'm a pretty laid back person and will judge a game on its merits rather than any preconceived assumptions based on previous games and was really looking forward ot this game however for the first time in my life, unless they gave me a Damn good reason I will refuse to get this game on moral reasons. You may say I am over-reacting and only punishing myself etc but I feel a moral obligation to stand up for my opinions - who knows if more people did it then developers might actually listen to its players for a change.

"people who preorder and who are the biggest fans" therefore anyone not in the US cannot be a big fan?! I was already concerned about DC letting SOE develop this game for them, and such statements don't help my cynicism. Not a great start SOE.

"We said from the start that we were going to have microtransactions"

Rubbish.

They equivocated from the start.

At various points they've said they were considering them, watching how they worked in other games, not commenting etc. etc.

So when you're trying to beg trust from potential customers about the nature and scope of microtransactions, why start with a lie?
