To be frank, whilst I no longer play RuneScape, it's graphics are pretty damn awesome.

Now, before anyone leaps from the shadows to "correct" me, allow me to continue. RuneScape is nothing like other MMOs, such as World of Warcraft, EverQuest, Lord of the Rings Online, etc. RuneScape uses Java for it's game engine, which holds much more restrictions in regards to things like graphics in comparison to the engines that something like WoW is run off.

RuneScape's graphics are, quite frankly, pretty damn awesome for a Java-based game. Remember that it -is- a Java game, and Java is a -bitch- to work with in comparison to many other languages (debatable, of course, and there's a lot worse languages out there, but whatever).

Back during the height of the Roman Empire, they sent two legions (each legion is around 5,000 troops plus auxiliary forces) into the forests of what is today Germany -- 10,000+ troops from one of the greatest fighting forces in history. The Empire had to send in scouts to figure out what happened to them. The scouts just found the corpses of the troops. The Germanic tribes completely wiped out the legions.

Quite frankly, the Ewok victory in RotJ is mild in comparison.

People always complain about the Gungans. The Gungans in of themselves are ok, I liked the big dinos with the shield generators and the rest of their army. Now Jar Jar on the other hand I could have done without. You shouldn't generalize all the Gungans as buffons just because Jar Jar was, it's the same as saying all people are stupid just because 1 is.

I thought Ewoks were basically an unknown race and the events in SWTOR happen a thousand years BEFORE Return of the Jedi?

...So how could there be EWOKS in SWTOR if they are a newly discovered race a thousand years later?

I don't think it's so much that they are "undiscovered" and much as ignored. They are very primitive, and the planet is one huge forest. Not much there, until the 2nd Death Star fell to the surface and destroyed half of it.

Yay Rebels!

You're crazy! Ewoks in SW:TOR would be great. I mean, they're a canonical race in Star Wars. It's not like Bioware would just be making them up. Plus, they could make fun quests for the Sith based on the idea of throwing or kicking Ewoks a certain distance. Fun for the whole family!

While i was working at RTI i sat through to many meetings that made you blink twice or slap yourself because you just witnessed something incredible such as the person pitching an non contractual idea was met with clapping instead of the required "are you just stupid".

I had the honor of telling many a phd or simple coder their ideas were simply stupid or lazy (in those words, as they ALWAYS tried to talk down to my team) or not in keeping with what we were designing, regardless of how "neat" it sounded or might work. I remember one particular meeting we were closing on the end of a virtual maintenance trainer, their pitch was to make the last bits of the program a picture only with hotspot mouseovers, with our contract stating otherwise and the clapping from the civilians the program manager decided it was to be so....until i finally stopped blinking at the stupidity and redirected all that happy clapping energy into hate toward myself and my team.

It was a good day. Make sure you have your ducks in a row however, or have a solution to a problem that develops quickly, being able to think on your feet is always helpful, and use one or two syllable words, phd's hate that, and above all, know what your talking about. people that are scorned in front of others are like lawyers, they will try to pick apart your counter argument in an attempt to save face.

Being able to stand up and say "that is wrong" or "that wont work" or "your not going to shortcut anything for money" is something civilians lack. They clap mindlessly or happily nod their heads to please their bosses instead of saying the hard, right thing and stopping huge mistakes.

Always remember, regardless of what you think as a gamer, or think you deserve, the companies, even those quaint indie companies of a couple folks, are not there to please you, they are their to make money and that is it, nothing more. Sure they will accomodate the least effort and interest to get you to buy their product with what research was done but no more. That statement may sound wild, its not. Companies claiming a passion for gaming is actually passion for cash and how they can best suck you in be it change to or an addition to an already nearly developed game.

Case in point in the main article, did anyone stand up an say "hey, your idea is pretty ignorant" or did it sound more like "hey, while thats a cute idea we may want to look at other more accurate lore ideas for a wide spectrum target audience, but if you wont change your mind ewoks and wings are fine."

There is absolutely zero chance folks wont know what Star Wars is, injecting filler material as "recognition" as some folks put it is exactly that, And trying to put questionable things in a set lore is always....interesting.

I wish i could sit in on some of those meetings so i could stand up and say, "you are stupid". Civilians, thin skin, no balls, and even less common sense as the education level rises, always makes for a politician or a bad game...

There are those times when you hear something and before you can say anything its official, and you think while looking around at what just transpired, omg! this stuff actually happens, its at that point you decide whether to keep your job or tell the now decided "command group" they are indeed idiots, as that gets attention though many find it socially unacceptable in a rose colored glasses world. (grin)

I was "let go" from more than a few special projects because the phd's did not like my "being pithy" until the point more than one or two failed and we (our team) could say i told you so and cite examples. Yes losing a job is never a good thing, especially in todays market, but someone has to have common sense, and if you are found to be part of that team that failed or caused a failure, and yet you did nothing, who in their right mind would hire you?

.......... i do get your point though. (grin)

Excuse my peppering this thread.

My brother has the gift for humor through fast thinking on a particular subject and creating a room of people crying so hard and laughing at the same time. I told him about some of the thngs i was reading and showed him this article, the ensuing tears and headache that i developed from laughing so hard was amazing.

I cant describe it here (you had to be there) but it had to do with a storm trooper (the topic picture) checking his armor, adjusting his multi targeting blaster, monitoring his area movement sensors and heat tracking Infra red visor and checking the number of live pulse grenades he had, only to be hit by an Ewok with a slingshot in the back of the head and subsequently be beaten down by them. Ruined a perfectly good can of mountai dew.....

Your defense of SOE is interesting. You make it sound as if George himself is personally overseeing and stamping the items that are being placed into a failed mmo for some silly holiday, which is unlikely. SWG has been so made to mollify as great an audience as possible, and as such has lost what parts of it that made it excellent. Good troll.

Defending SOE? To an extent, maybe. Thing is, SOE isn't alone in that game, and hasn't been since the very beginning. With LucasArts involved, any credit or blame for the game has to be shared because SOE couldn't make the game without LA's approval.

If you've got a chip on your shoulder over what has happened to SWG and want to blame SOE, that's entirely your choice. But in doing so you are blinding yourself to the fact that LA IS involved and deserves their fair share of credit/blame for the decisions made.

Makes me wonder exactly who is going to get blamed if/when something is added to TOR that the fans throw a snit fit about. LOL

"As the trooper inches his way to the small, fluffy creature, suddenly, the animal springs to life, attaching itself to the hapless trooper's helmet, then proceeds to RIP HIS !@~$#!@ FACE OFF!!"

This. While I don't care if they have Ewoks I would LOVE it if they were this. I LOLd.

But on the entire subject, while sillyness is fine in certain MMOs like WoW. I would hate to see it in LotRO. And in SWTOR.

There are already humorous things in LotRO, but they fit with the mileau.
