I really cant see how people, such that they are, can relevel another avatar through the same lore or content, being that content is as stagnant as it has been the last 10-15 years because of money models. Trying one toon is more than enough for me as i cannot stomach rote action more than one time. I hope the game will improve, it never does.

Storage? "new" experiences? with the same content? To each their own, you stay in your lane i will stay in mine, just dont try to convince me making an alt will make the game worth the money or change the mechanic.

I think Massively needs to do a piece on the monitization of the MMO industry. A company hoping alts will entice players to keep playing really bad content is SOP today, that and item stores to "enhance" that alt experience, better your money than mine. (grin)

Can´t think of anything worse than having to level up another character through what is basically the same areas, same quests and so on in most of todays mmo.

Doesn´t matter if it is Aion, Wow, AoC you end up running the same stuff with every toon. Well 90% the same stuff and it was not all that exciting to begin with.

That said blizzard have improved a bit in the cataclysm beta the leveling. More streamlined and also some background as to why you go to certain areas. Hopefully swtor will bring some difference to the leveling but I fear that will also go through mostly the same areas and doing the same damn quests..

Still thanks for a nice article!

Tarantia Commons is your favorite high-level zone? Personally I found the zone to be quite annoying, specially as a newly dinged 80 with crappy gear.. Didn't find any worthwhile rewards either..

My ToS just hit 28 in Khemi and I haven't even finished half the content there.

I'm torn. I really wanted to experience Khitai as it was intended but I want to finish Khemi too. There is so much content in AoC you really have to roll an alt to see it all properly.

I figure one for each starting city and you really won't be doing the same content while leveling unless you want too.

absolutely true - opposed to any other mmo i played the last years, in AoC there is plenty of content for 3 to 4 chars. And classes play very different too.

I have one character in AoC because I hate the single starting area and just can't be bothered with grinding my way through it again. I have dozen of characters in WoW. Why? 9 starting areas (and a further 4 added in the next expansion). AoC might have a lot of content at later levels but a single starting area is very poor game design.

That's only true up to a certain level, probably around 40. After that it's a lot more linear.

EQ2 undoubtedly takes the prize for the most choice where content is concerned, but again only up to a certain level - around 60 after which it too becomes rather more linear.

You should have stayed with the ranger man. we're so much fun to play and boderline OP now after the revamp.

I'll go back eventually. I had gotten all the way to 60 playing a certain way though, and I just really wasn't in the mood to relearn the class right now.

Good to hear it's still viable though. After I finish up this guardian and do some endgame stuff with my assassin I'll reroll a ranger from scratch.

Knowing this was on the horizon, I put my ranger on hold. She is one of my surviviong "old" characters, the ones I rolled and played to above 20 in the months after release.

Now I've dusted her off, and I find the new ranger play a blast compared to what I remember it was like. She was left at 47 and since the revamp is now 64. I can now get splash damage while using a bow, and for me that's more than enough compensation for losing some effectiveness in snares.

If I had levelled her not knowing this was on the horizon, I'd probably be furious. Nothing works like it used to. But I'm enjoying minem and looking forward to having this character as an alternate option for raids.

I am a MAJOR altoholic, alas and alack. I think it has to do with certain aspects of my personality; I certainly have a high tolerance for repetition! I enjoy comparing and contrasting how class A compares to class B in tackling the same quest(s).

I play a lot of alts because I ...

-- enjoy the variety of playing the different classes
-- I find it helpful to learn the pluses and minuses of other class types firsthand
-- use my various alts to supplement and assist one another with their crafting skills
-- "listen" with my various alts to LFG/chat so that I can log on a particular toon that needs a particular group quest if a group is forming up

I really hate most endgame content anyway; I'd much sooner roll and play an alt than sit around in LFG/raid/dungeon group purgatory. Moreover, imo most MMOs are better and more fun in the early-level content than after you hit the level cap.
