I may not actively follow this game anymore, so I don't watch the updates...

But 2.0 is being sold? How disappointing.

No, Assault on Balaurea itself is free. The boxed copies that are being sold include the full game. I changed that a bit to make it clearer -- thank you!

First content update after 12 months, bad really bad. And when are they going to introduce support and GM's ? After 24 months ?

A year that saw several fixes, balance fixes, bug fixes and some new content (1.9 still added stuff). Secondly, a year for the amount of content we'll be getting is pretty sweet. 6 new instances, 2 new zones, 2 new fort, revamp of several systems. WoW's first expansion took 2 years, and the content in between was rather present at first but eventually lacked(it was content that was supposed to be released at first, but they pulled it out and released it as content patch.).

The first 12 months are always the longest ones, because that's when you have to fix and iron out the major flaws THEN you can start working on new content. Not only that, but our version requires additional work (retesting to see if our systems are stable, translating, etc..).

If you don't do that, you end up with a Warhammer online, where they force released untested content and before fixing major issues that they had been having since release day. It took a change in dev team(to Bioware) to start fixing the game good, and subscription are rising right now thanks to the quality of the game improving.

@Butts

Sorry but you can try and spin this game any way you want but it doesn't make it any less of a trash heap. The game itself is bad and you can add anything you want to it but the system is still crap.

So they add 6 instances that are about as hard as wailing caverns in WoW. Huzzah! The reason WoW instances take so long is making new and interesting encounters, except when they recycle places like Naxx... Bottom line is instances in Aion are 99% tank & spank, easy if you have the gear, encounters. On second thought WC & RFC might be leagues ahead of AION.

New quests! Yay more filler quests of kill 60 XXXXX for no apparent reason, repeat for every mob in the game. They left the story and decent quests back at level 10.

New content! Or they will just reuse Mobs and models they already have copy & Pasted all over the game and call it new. I wouldn't be surprised to see yet another Muumuu farm with mau...maybe purple shaded this time?

2 NEW forts! Great now if only forts weren't snore fests and PvP actually meant something. Unless they overhauled the PvP system the new forts are meaningless. Not to mention realm imbalance, even after transfers, that makes it near impossible for one side to take anything.

I'll assume this adds the ground only abyss that was needed due the abysmal(pun!) failure that is their current abyss? Sounds like they're great at PvP design if they need to scrap their current PvP zone. Did they overhaul the basic stat mechanics so armor meant something? Did they finally revamp the crafting system so it was actually decent instead of a grocery list? Did they balance ranged classes?

So lets put this all together, in 2.0- Leveling will still be a grind due to lack of quest variation/content, PvE will be tank&spank and unimaginative, PvP will still be worthless and if you want to achieve anything you farm abyss points and avoid actual PvP at all costs, realms will still be grossly imbalanced, the abyss will still be a place one side dominates and roving gank squads make unusable.

yep sounds like they changed A LOT and this patch took a year?

1.9 is not a content update. Making some quests repeatable does not mean content. There are still tons of bugs unsolved from version 1.5, not to mention the new ones from 1.9. Balance ? Let me laugh about that. Look at how unbalanced are the servers even after the merge.
Why do the Aion fanboys always talk about WOW ? That was a pioneer in the MMO field. Why do you not mention the other 3 or 4 MMOs launched at the same time with Aion, who all already got 1 or even 2 updates in the last 12 months. From the pack of MMOs launched in autumn 2009 , Aion is still the worst at updates and support.

I sincerely hope it turns this game around, I no longer play and have no plan to reactivate any time soon, but Aion has potential, it's just poorly done right now.

Also, I don't mean to flame, but is the shipping 2.0 expansion really going to be as expansive as the fabled "Vision of the future" trailer? Let's hope they can and will deliver.

This game is fail whatever they do. The only success they may have is in Asia, EU/NA does not like ASIAN GRIND games full of bots/goldsellers, no GM support and 0.00001% chance for item drops in endgame dungeons.

Out of 11 comments about 7 are raging about how bad Aion is and so on... If you don't like Aion why even bother posting in a news about Aion? Don't you have something better to do? Like playing your game that far better then Aion? You may not like Aion but Aion sure has it's Playerbase here in EU/NA believe it or not... Some might come with the Servermerge being a bad thing now...but is it really? I doubt it.

If you don't like Aion and don't even want to play anymore why are you even here? Just to flame the heck out of a News good for the people who play Aion? You can waste your time in your beloved game may it be AoC, WoW or something else.

But... but... it's the cool thing to state our opinions as facts, what we dislike on a game must mean it is a broken, right? /sarcasm

Here here. I haven't played Aion, and hardly read the news. The title got me to read this thread (I thought maybe the 2.0 was like Aion 2) and so I checked it out and am honestly surprised how many people come just to spew venom. You're right, people need to get over the fact that they don't like game x, y or z and play their own games.

They spent money on it and probably loved the potential that Aion had - that's why they spend time complaining. If you pay for something and the quality is bad or the service is poor, it's only natural to complain about it and warn others about it. Don't pretend people just don't like the game and are being childishly malicious. Aion had to undergo a drastic server merge 9 months after launch - that says something is wrong.

People have a right to voice their opinion even if it's one you don't want to hear. I am not going to bash this game. But I will also not play it again. The experience from the developer left me with a sour taste and I doubt if I will ever play another game from NCsoft again. A lot of what I read as criticism here is well deserved and informative for folks thinking about trying the game out. That's fair and why people come to sites like this one. to become better educated especially before shelling out $50.00 on something. The post by Disataste was very well written and IMO 100% accurate.

@Acelin & frnorth1 there is a difference in saying "I sincerely hope it turns this game around, I no longer play and have no plan to reactivate any time soon, but Aion has potential, it's just poorly done right now." (crsh) and saying "This game is fail whatever they do. The only success they may have is in Asia, EU/NA does not like ASIAN GRIND games full of bots/goldsellers, no GM support and 0.00001% chance for item drops in endgame dungeon" (g0kuenuan). One is disliking it and not bashing it, and the other is being a douche. There is nothing wrong with voicing opinions but its also such a waste of time to come in and bash a game for no reason at all.

@Nick - Having seen NCWest make so many bad moves, over and over again, I guess I have a lot more understanding for how exacerbated some people are with how the game has been continuously mismanaged. Plus, everything Og0kuenuan said is true. He's not just making it up.

@Quendi. You, like a vast majority people have no real clue as to what flaming or trolling actually is, just what you have been taught, usually by thin skinned folks making assumptions and taking them as fact. You throw the word flame around like you know what it means, there isnt a single reply on this thread including mine that could be considered, flaming, trolling or whatever, lots of folks posting dislike of this title though, that what you dislike or cant handle?

Being able to type an opinion on anything is great, keep it on subject, express your views verse another poster or OP and move on, whether someone likes it or not. Your comment is a sword that cuts both ways, indeed if you ask why others are here, why should you be here? why should you be alowed to comment and give laudatory examples of AION and others not allowed to to react negatively? I truly understand you would love to see a thread in which AION received nothing but positive comments, in your world.

You also give an example of seven negative out of eleven posts, does that even mean anything to you, or just another reason to try and silence a majority. I tried AION, loved the character creation, the wep and armor detail, the world is nice looking but like several hundred thousand other folks we found the game you like so much to be wanting in many, many areas and not worth our money and because of this we need to stay silent? Heh, i dont think so.

Do not look at the negative posts as trolling or hate, look at them as a way to let the devs know they are still screwing up and they need to improve the game, 1.9 did nothing to make me want to come back and 2.0 will also do nothing from the notes.

Heck i would love to come back but your beloved community of rifters are simply ingrates that ruined a game for the majority, devs let that happen. Might not be easy to read but its true, your small sub base proves that as fact.

Quendi, get with your devs and have them fix the following that will still be a problem come 2.0 release.

The ability to opt out of pvp in pve areas.
The ability to only pvp 1 level above or below based on equipment.
Remove the pvp advantage from ranged builds or even it out verse land builds.
Make flight actually mean/do something in the game since it supposed to be centric, like traveling. Right now it only gives more advantage to ranged builds.
Remove levels. (optional)
Remove the mechanic that prevents game balance until 50, currently its ate the hell up.
Remove the grind.
Fix crafting.
Fix weapon/equip aquisition.

You see Quendi, what i listed has been broken since the game began, rifters call it working as intended, tens of thousands disagreed, the result is a dead game that few enjoy. The 1.9 patch release and the planned 2.0 release did nothing, will do nothing, until people like you, that still play the game either quit or finally beat the devs up enough they listen.

I am glad we could have this exchange of ideas, its what massively is all about............. fair.......and balanced. (grin)

I just read through the patch notes. The vast majority of real game-affecting elements come into play at level 51. You still have to slog through a virtually unchanged game to get to that point.

For example, when I saw the Visions trailer and the airstreams in it I was excited, envisioning ways that those would be really cool and helpful in the world. Now it turns out that they're only in the two new high level zones. Same goes for geysers and updrafts.

About the only really cool new thing I saw that (probably) applies to all levels is the new pet system. That looked interesting.

I'd hoped that 2 would be the release that brought me back to Aion. Now I know it won't be. It's starting to look like GW2 could be out before Aion gets to something that could win me back and by then it will be too late.
