Not wanting to put a downer on your screenshot Matt, but you do realize that the Galaxy Class in this image is incredibly incorrectly modelled? I know dstahl has been making improvements to it which might show up in the Season 2 patch. In any case, this image shows quite clearly the lack of "attention to detail" that the Cryptic developers had while modelling the canon designs for Star Trek Online.

This being one of many reasons why i'm not actively playing STO, despite being a longtime fan of the franchise.

Somehow, Matthew's happiness makes me happy about this game. I tried it and really loved almost everything about it, from the superb character customization, to the gorgeous scenery, to the capable handling of the Star Trek lore, to the clever implementation of crafting. However, after a couple of weeks, I found that the missions became repetitive and the ship combat felt frustratingly slow. I think the game is fantastic, but it's not quite the right game for me. It's nice to see that someone is loving it to the Nth degree, the way it deserves. I can feel his thrill at getting that gorgeous ship.

That's a very nice screenshot and thanks for sharing.

@ Darkthunder...was the last part of your sentence really necessary? I mean who cares about why you stop subscribing and the issue about the correct model could be debatable but after all its just a game. If the ship looks good then I don't think I would be worrying about the minor details.

Problem is, MMO... plenty of people DO care about details. And what was wrong with the last part of my sentence? (despite being a longtime fan of the franchise).

There's alot of people who assume that, since STO is a Star Trek game that it means automatically every single Star Trek fan will be flocking to the game. This simply isn't true. I've given the game several chances. Preordered the game, played for 2 months since launch, took a break, re-subbed in Season 1, and now i'm back to being on a break, pending the outcome of Season 2.

The game simply doesn't hold enough interest to me to keep me subscribing for it long-term. I am very happy I did not end up picking up a Lifetime Subscription of the game. Once you hit max level, there is very little to do in the game other than repeat the STFs (which are essentially the equivalent of "dungeons). I liked the concept of their "Fleet Actions" early on in the game, but it didn't take a whole lot of organizing and you were still limited to your own "Party". They have yet to actually make any Fleet Actions where you can properly do the content "with your fleet".

Don't get me wrong, the game definitely has potential. The building blocks are there. But currently, it feels lackluster. Dunno how to describe it any better than that. I really had high hopes for this game.

@Darkthunder... I think what people are trying to say is this article is about "Look at this great screenshot" and not "Do you like STO". I for one am growing extremely tired of all the negativity, we know people don't like STO, no one asked or cares to hear about it.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the game, Matthew, and thanks for the screenshot!

Like you, I play the game pretty much every day or two, and I enjoy it. Others don't, but that's their decision to make. If something makes you happy, grab onto it with both hands. Life's too short to do otherwise! :-)

Cheers.

Well darkthunder this is the comment I don't understand why you made it:

"This being one of many reasons why i'm not actively playing STO, despite being a longtime fan of the franchise."

And that is because this article is about a screenshot that some wanted share about his accomplishment. Listing a dozen(sarcasm) of reasons on why you don't subscribe to the game has nothing do do with his screenshot. Like I said, I dont care why you play or don't play the game and it seems people try to find any opportunity to say why they don't subscribe to this game. If you dont like dont play and stop trying to scare people away.

Thanks for the screen shot Matthew! Really nice one!

I always enjoy the One Shots pictures, regardless of the game. It is always interesting to see what others are doing in their favorite games.

^ this made me LoL.

BTW, Crypic has gone a long way to address cannon visual issues. I think the T4 Galaxy (not the sparkleship) is in it's 3rd revision. They even gave us totally new TOS female uniforms that are amazing compared to the original that was given to us on launch. But just about every cannon ship has an active thread on the forums addressing visual concerns, complete with dev feedback and encouragement.
