I enjoy a good artbook like the one from age of conan ce and also the music disc is nice. While I don´t play many of the games anymore such as age of conan I don´t regret getting the collectors edition.

Some really rare in game items is all i really want from a Collectors Edition MMO, the items have to stand out though. I like to be flashy.

Looking forward to the physical goodies mostly I think! Does anyone know if the CE will be available through steam? Do they even do shipping and then allow for future digital download? I hate having to re-install via discs lol...If not, where is the best place to pre-order? amazon?

i got the "digital deluxe edition" of dragon age on steam, and it included bonus content and items, and also downloadable OST; but in terms of actual items you can hold in your hand, no steam does not deliver anything like that.

they don't actually have a physical warehouse for stuff like that, which is the glory of steam.

in FFXIV's case, I only am interested in the 8days pre-launch, but that doesn't make me want to spend 50% more on the box.

I think Square did pretty well with this one. An in game CE item, *see big goofy helm. A security measure to protect my goodies. And the real reason I pre-orded the CE ..... EARLY ACCESS!! Oh and I got a new book to write all my FFXIV related quest notes and farming locations. ^-^

Basically I don't really care about physical items or collector's editions at all. I prefer digital downloads.

But a collectors edition digital download of an mmo would be nice if it came with a lifetime subscribtion ;)

I don't usually go for the collector's edition, especially not now when games are being offered digitally. However, XIV will be an exception and I think the head start alone is worth it. I want to be out of the starting zone when the game is officially released.

my #1 rule is to never pre-order a game I haven't tried. Saves you from games like Aion etc.

My problem with in-game items is that it seems most of them love to take up inventory space, which is a particular problem early on in some games. Some games go so far as to only give you the item one time per player as well. Also, most in-game equipable items stink, they give you +1 to STR or some stupid attribute and you're replacing them in 5 levels. Warhammer's in-game CE items were mostly laughable, aside from the vanity trophies/facial stuff.

It's not the same, but I do like how Guild Wars does bonus items. You can just type /bonus and get them over and over again, so they can be deleted when their not used.

I'd prefer vanity things or emotes or special or skills, not actual inventory items. If it's pets and they go to a pet skill bar (ala WoW) that's much better. City of Heroes had a special run particle effect based on the retailer pre-ordered from, I really like that (it was a skill) and several years later I went back and barely saw anyone with it.

I have the Warhammer CE and I think it was the most impressive, due to it's physical size and included real objects, that's my preference.

Extra play time doesn't do it for me anymore. I'm at the point not I don't need to be 1st person out of the starting block.

I love few ingame stuff, like a emote or a little handy item that is used out of combat, like summoning some dancers or whatever.
Then a soundtrack.
And most importantly, some useless merhchandise. Skills pins like the one from gw nightfall. small figures, like aion. a flashlight, a mouse pad. stuff like that

I can't say in-game stuff really gets me, it's the out of game stuff I want. Namely Artbooks and Soundtracks.

I have never bought into the collector's edition nonsense. As many people have said, the in-game items tend to be worthless, and I can care less about an art book or a sound track. Even if I did want that stuff, they are NOT worth the +25-50% price hike.

There are a great many people who see differently, however, which is why we wound up with things like cash shops and sparkleponies.

I have to mostly agree. The worst thing is when they pull some kind of stunt, you get your "special", "exclusive", and then X number of months down the road they put that wonderful exclusive thing(s) up for sale on their cash shop! Oy! The infinite level of greed these days never ceases to amaze.

It's all about the early access for me, unless I get into beta, then I just get the regular edition. The only exception was Star Trek Online, I got the deluxe edition even though I did the beta, just so I could start off with the constitution class ship that was slightly better than the miranda class as well as getting the nice tactical console and armor suit. If the items were just flash and no substance, I would definitely not buy any collector's edition.

None, I want them to quit the collector's editions all together its really just a quick cash in on the hype! Whatever bonus you get with it not really does any thing for you ingame!

Best CE ever was Gears of War II, offering the Lancer replica with the game. So I'd have to go with RL goodies. Also, adding emotes and just little things are awesome, too.
