You know a gay person!

And you're adamant that Faggot is slang for a bundle of sticks in 11th Century England.

Good to have you here as an arbiter, chum.

"Also the F word referred to here, has multiple meanings; cigarette, bundle of sticks (well before the negative homosexual meaning) and slang is one of them. Like it or not."

Yes that word has other meanings. So when you use it are those other meanings what you're talking about? I mean I would have to go pretty far to use either g** or f** in a casual sentence and honestly expect anyone I know to do more than say "huh?" or laugh at me if they understood the reference. I can just see me talking to my husband: "This beautiful morning makes me feel so g**" or "Honey, can you bring a f**ot in and put it by the fireplace?" Please.

I love when people use "the word has other meanings" as an excuse to use it when they know darn well it is unacceptable. Lame.

That's the thing though. Dunno *why* WoW's community is so... needy of a morningstar to the face, but the rest have a rampant problem of not being able to stand up for each other against trolls. So when someone does, the troll either does two things. They wither up on the spot in surprise, or they foam at the mouth. It's usually the second, as they rarely travel alone. And so daring to say anything, gets a neverending stream of trouble, at least until the ignore button takes effect.

Yeah, my ignore list is getting full.

Yep, playing an forsaken priest just after Burning Crusade. Was with four others who happened to be blood elves, and they dropped me for another blood elf. It was funny and pathetic at the same time.

Hi everyone! I've just gone through and cleaned up this thread a bit. Please focus on answering Justin's question, rather than allowing yourself to be derailed and sidetracked by other topics. It's really not necessary to keep using offensive words repeatedly in order to define them. We get it. Bad words are bad. This is also not a thread for you to flaunt your own bigotry or troll other posters about their sexuality, religion, political affiliation, gender, ethnicity, nationality, and so on. Massively's rules of conduct still apply, even -- especially -- in controversial topics.

Please hit the report button on any posts you want us to take another look at. Thanks very much.

I don't agree with your censorship and would prefer to form my own opinions. You cheapen the discussion by picking and choosing what is "bad" and preventing us from replying to it. These are words, not bullets, I don't need to be protected from them. Thanks.

Agreed with the previous reply.

Please explain to me two things. How is talking about discrimination in games off topic and how are my comments "Homophobic Intent."

How can you create an opinion article on a controversial topic then censor the controversy. I answer the question of "Why people say fag in online gaming," and you attack me with the censor and the label of "homophobic intent."

Frankly, I am offended and would appreciate any reply clarifying your reasons.

Hi Bree. You probably didn't see my reply earlier on, but I for one thank you for editing the posts. People were getting a little too hot under the collar and a few among us were going bat-*self-bleep* crazy, and I was thiiiis close to joining them.

I applaud your work, though I don't envy you for the sheer amount of flak you're going to get from the bat-*bleep* crazies.

First, there was no request for you to give this information. That is not the topic of this thread, therefore the editing is entirely appropriate.

Second, being offensive while explaining something is not an excuse. You can give a reason why someone would use a word without using it yourself.

Hello Djinn,

The topic of this article is discrimination in MMO's. People answer the question asked in the article but then it is inappropriate for us to discuss the answers and possible reasons why it might be that way?

This would mean that your post is off-topic as well and deserves an edit.

Obviously I didn't think that a news site would be so narrow as to censor out and be so narrow in their scope in regards to the responses to said article, in fact I argue that while the question was posed it in fact has a sentence after that that you ignored or missed. Read it again.

"Have you been discriminated against in game? Pipe up, and let's sew those old wounds shut once and for all!"

Pay attention to the second part. Mine was an effort to tell people why there is so much use of the word ***.

What fustrates me the most is the Senior Editor of this site labled me Homophobic, which in your answers you yourself did not adress the accusation. Did you read my comments? Did you think they had "homophobic intent?"

You are right though, as I read through the rules for posting on this site I saw that we were supposed to keep it rated "E." My mistake possibly is that I used words that most people wouldn't expose their kids to.

Although I admit to my mistake in that my intent is far from homophobic.

Yup I have been discriminated against in games, as I feel everyone has. For some reason most games brings out elitist attitudes in ..most of us.

While I shrug off ingame discrimination aimed at my character, I tend to get very defensive with personal attacks. Sometimes it becomes harassment and on rare occasions it made me leave the game for good.

With personal attacks, I feel nothing can excuse the behavior of some people and it's often "excusers" that annoy me much more than people who made the racist or sexist comments in the first place.

Off topic, boy I feel sorry for you Bree and the amount of censoring you had to do with this thread. +respect

I've been discriminated against for being Christian and in a Christian guild, for being too young and for being too old, for the way my voice sounds (deep), for playing with odd specs/gear/class combos (though I'm always a very successful player if I want to be), for not doing the same things others do, for not joining in on discrimination against other people...

Oh, and for disagreeing with homosexuality. Yeah, people actually hate me for that. Thanks, guys.
