If you're playing Star Trek Online, odds are good that you've come by your affection for the game via a prior love of the series. While we haven't had a new show on television in several years, almost every fan has fond memories of sitting down each week for the latest installments of the story. According to a new 10-question interview with Daniel Stahl, that's exactly what the team hopes to replicate (pun intended) with the weekly episodes that are coming along with Season 2. Each one is meant to give players something new to look forward to on a weekly basis, ranging from first contact with an alien race to placing your ship in perilous situations.
Speaking of first contact, there's more information on diplomatic missions, which seem as if they'll not simply be standalone ventures but also components of existing content. (The once-dreaded planetary aid missions, for example, fall under their aegis.) One of the rewards for progressing through the diplomatic ranks is the chance to make first contact and define the first impression the Federation makes -- something that any fan of the series will tell you is an important event. Star Trek Online players eager for more information on Season 2 can read the full list of questions, which include a preliminary target of the last week in July.

Not sure if it was intended, but the slight jab at the game insinuating that the only people likely playing the game are because the Star Trek "skin" and not for the quality of the game itself was amusing.
While I loved the series, I unfortunately do not play STO any longer, as it was a torrid misrepresentation of the IP, and a general disservice to the franchise.
Not to mention their unethical business practices (I'm not talking about JUST the C-store), products by Cryptic are best avoided.

Can't wait for Season 2, though the download's going to be killer. Recently been hammering away at the game, and I love it. I'm still waiting for missions to happen on the ship, and of course, and though their introducing some mini-games, still waiting to be able to play poker on ship.

I'm definitely looking forward to Season 2. I leveled one character up to RA5 and I've got an alt in the mid-CMDR ranks, but I'd like to return to my primary character to level them up further.
The idea of "weekly episodes," in my opinion, is brilliant and should have been included at launch. I think a lot of people flew through the game within the first 30 days and didn't renew the subscription due to a perceived "lack in content" (which, I argue, is misguided because there's plenty of content in there, but you have to level multiple characters to get at all of it... Some people don't like replaying levels, but I don't mind it as long as I'm doing it with a different character with different abilities). The weekly missions should help assuage that problem.
