This post fails to answer why this would be happening.

Governments do these sorts of things all the time... for other entertainment industries. The movie industry in particular. People want to bring an industry to their area and are quite content to force everyone else to pay to make that happen, relying on the perception of local improvement (whether or not it's true). That video games are now worthy of that kind of effort is really a step up for the tech and the genre, if not exactly a step forward for economic liberty.

They could use that in future tourism commercials.

We're the Korean Government,

Bringing elven hotties in sundresses to MMO's since 2010.

Kidding aside, if my pc will run it, I'll likely be buying it.

People can make fun all they want but in the end i think the Elves in sun-dresses are a selling point for me. I'd like a trial or to do some testing of it before I would buy it though... Aion fooled me once shame on them; Fool me twice?

I'm not big on elves, even in sundresses. Busty elves may be a different story.

They don't look "underage" they just look young. How can you put an age on a rendering anyhow unless its blatantly going for a specific age?

Wow that's a lot of money to put in a Korean grind fest! Think at all the Korean people they where able to help with that money...

too early to call a grind fest yet (in case that was not a trolling attempt).

why not look at the good side? more investment means possible higher quality of the finished product. South Korean government has always been promoting the growth of their electronic gaming industry and this is nothing new nor should it be surprising.

Agreed THAC0, I like their well-detailed elves in sundresses. :D

However, if the first quest is "Here is a wooden sword. Go kill ten rats." I will be :\. If the second quest is "Congrats on your mighty victory! Here is a dented iron sword. Go kill 10 mean rats." I will be done.

Me too! I've had enough killing rats for a dented sword!

I don't like the rats either.
I prefer to kill 10 boars with my crude axe!

That's really not a very large investment at all in the scheme of things. But the more, the better. As long as it doesn't take away from BH/EM truly working together as they have been, then I don't care.

Not surprising and not the first MMO dev to get grant money. Funcom also has gov grant money to dev MMOs. Getting a grant to develop a networking platform is pretty easy really.

If anything like here is Canada the basis of the grant is one the chances of getting a product out the door and then how much revenue that product will generate for the country. RIM was once a grant recipient. Canada made its money back and then some ;)

Korea- "We will pay you to make this game as grindy, boring, and unattractive to western audiences as you can."

Bluehole- "Oh well... Alright!"

Me- "http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h143/sithcountess/Misc%20Stuff/VaderNOOOOO.gif"

This game just looks fun- the combat, the classes, I also like the whole design of it all, I hope it's not a boring grindfest...

And I for one don't mind being around half naked elven women... It's fantasy isn't it?

The only upcoming Korean MMO that looks remotely interesting to me is Vindictus.

TERA's combat sounds interesting but that look is just too....Aion.
