We'll forgive you if you haven't yet heard of ArcheAge, an in-development MMORPG from XLGames. You probably have heard of lead developer Jake Song, though, or at the very least, you've probably played one of his games. The native South Korean is the brains behind the original Lineage, and he worked with Richard Garriott on Tabula Rasa. Also while at NCsoft, Song lent his talents to the conceptualization and creation of an MMORPG called Lineage Forever, which subsequently morphed into Aion.
These days, Song's XLGames is busily putting the CryENGINE 2 through its paces to bring you ArcheAge, and it is gearing up for the game's first closed beta test. The testing, scheduled for late July, looks to gather player feedback on some of the title's more unique features including destructible architecture.
Unfortunately, you'll need to speak Korean (and probably know someone on the inside) to get an invite, but stay with Massively for more on this new game as it develops.

Sorry, I don't think that resume inspires confidence.

Ah, that explains why Aion started turning into a different game than it had initially been expected to be. This game looks gorgeous, but hopefully it's more then just that :P

Rather breathtaking, I wonder if it will be ported to the West one day. Also I liked the housing video it reminded me of Horizons crafting when it came to their buildings (one of the few things I really liked about that MMO other than playing a dragon.)

Impressive video. I loved that even the plants can grow! The horse idle animations looked good. I looked at some other videos, the landscapes looked good, large and open. Saw a video showing some of destructibles, very impressive also. Does not look like a typical eastern market MMO product (the ones that are churned out seemingly daily).

Cryengine 2 pretty much rules out my dinky machine.

Actually, you'll probably be able to run it fairly well on a low-end machine, if not at super-high graphics. CryEngine2 was built around making it more efficient than just pushing graphic boundaries the the original CryEngine was designed to do.
It'll be interesting to see what people can do with this engine.

Learning Korean, how hard can it be?

I have doubts that it will be in the U.S./Europe any time soon. Normally by now they would have announced plans to do so.

Sounds good.. I generally only hear about the Cryengine when people are talking high end graphics.
I'll definitely give it a test run.

Looks boring as hell. I'm sick of sylvan forests.

This.
Both Lineage games are a grindfest, TR one of the biggest failure in the MMO genre, where everything that should have NOT been done HAS BEEN done.
One hell of a resume indeed...
