It's been a rough ride for players of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes over the past few months, with the dreaded "maintenance letter" back in December that left players uncertain about the game's future. That uncertainty wasn't helped when rumors began circling that the game would be merging servers, followed by a confirmation of same. As of now, the server merge is complete, with the game's population all concentrated on a single server dubbed Telon.
The good news for players is that the merge, on a whole, went fairly smoothly. There was a slight extension of the expected operation time, which is really normal when dealing with a large-scale operation. It should also help the game's players enjoy the game with a larger population to draw from. The bad news is... well, a server merge is never exactly a comforting fact for any game, and we can only hope that the long-term benefits for Vanguard outweigh the negatives.
[Update: This does not affect the EU server which is set to merge at a later date. Thank you to everyone who tipped us on this!]

The EU server as well now? There are two merges and we are losing all our houses/guild halls during both so it is not completed until both merges have happened and I think the second wasn't happening till August.

There's actually two servers, not one. Halgar is not merging (the EU server) and has been postponed until further notice.

wish they woulda done this game on Choose My Adventure :/ right now is the perfect time for them to draw more players into VG and tell us how the community is looking.

This is the best thing to happen to VG, considering the population. The cities are busy again, people are making money and groups are being formed. We are hosting a static VG group next Monday, and we have a guild called "Massively.com" if anyone wants to see the game now. (Rikoo Rakoo or Massively Lee can be sent invite requests.)
It feels good to see the game actually still survive, even if it is on one server. SOE has maintained tiny games for many years before, and there is no reason VG can't do the same! :)

The merge went smooth. But as is typical, theres a pretty active global and its going to take some time to balance the load. If you want to come back... wait a week.

hopefully this makes for a better experience for the remaining players. bummer they didn't make moves like this sooner in the game's lifecycle. i had 2 stints with vanguard, but never stuck around more than a few months thanks to mostly empty servers.

Server merges should be more common place in my opinion. EQ2 is another perfect candidate as is CoX.

Off topic. During the downtime I took AoC up on their RotGS offer and one the new patch 2.0.5.1 I believe is visually buggy and two, after some months in VG on Highest Quality, AoC just isn't as impressive visually as it was after time in EQ2.
