Planet Calypso, the long-running real-cash economy MMORPG from First Planet Company and MindArk, will soon offer a new and dedicated starting area for new players. Previously, player colonists were at the mercy of the title's veteran residents and were thrown right into Planet Calypso's considerable learning curve with little in the way of an introduction.
Now, newbies can partake of the safe starting area (restricted to new players), learn the game's basics, and grab missions in the new Calypso Gateway. Players will hunt, mine, and craft using starter equipment on the secluded arrival island, and they will not be able to return once they've completed the tutorials and traveled to mainland Calypso.
Check out the official site for all the details.

I might take a look at it, though I've dabbled in their stuff twice- once during closed beta, and then again a year or two later. Both times I felt it was a bit off-putting.
Since I don't have as much time to game as I used to (a downside to employment :-P ), an "improved" starting area might make it a more attractive prospect for getting a feel of the place.
p.s. you have a typo (MinkArk)

I may check it out again as well to see what the starter area is like. The last time I tried it was sometime early CryEngine 2 release. The thing that really put me off most about Entropia was the horrible character animations and controls. My character just didn't feel like it had well...character.

So, I gave the new starting area a try. I like the training it provides. It does need some tweaking and it could use some better visual indication messages to direct players. Otherwise, once you are done, they explain to go to Port Atlantis where they teleport you inside a shopping mall and you pretty much have to find your bearings from there. I found myself running all over the place only to find out I made a few wrong turns. Wasted time running around. Definitely could use some more improvements.

I played it a couple of years ago and did not like the money sink part of it. The leveling for any skill is just a terrible grind. I love the idea, but did not feel I got my money's worth...

Header: I have no knowledge of this game other than this article and accompanying picture.
Is this Anorexia Online? Even the gun could use a few pounds.

that armor and rifle look like a rippoff of Mass Effect

Entropia is all about ripping people off. So their armor being "inspired" by a much more popular game and developer isn't surprising.

You do realize that Entropia Universe started in 2003 and Mass Effect was released in 2007 right? So I think it might be the other way around ;). With the release of CryEngine 2 to the game the armor has not changed much. The armor basically looks the same since 2003, with some great graphics tweaks along the way of course.
