I would say Team Fortress and the likes of Valves game got the balance pat down.

Anyway, I'm quite interested. I have never seen a gameplay footage, but I do like the diversity in characters. I would love to see how far this game can go. The lack of locational damage is going to make the game really weird though.

Maybe they might change some systems after a few patches. Then I'll give it a try. I'm always up for a good FPS anyway.

So that's why it's getting bad reviews and not because it is currently deeply flawed, who could have guessed it?

I hate to say this guys but after all those arguments about APB's mechanics and how it will go over with people...

I told you so!

No one listened to me when it mattered. Now they've all bought it and are unhappy. Surprise!

Speak for yourself please.

I've played MMO's since 97 and didn't touch a shooter for a decade, yet i've bought the game and am having a blast playing it.

It might get boring after a while (any MMO does) but i hope by then they will release more content.

Well I fully expect the game to get bad reviews. But as has already been stated the game (regardless of its flaws) is adictingly fun to play and hard to put down.

It's a game that mixs two genres and just so happens to show the worst of both genres at the same time. You have the repetition that is MMORPGs (Every MMO has the same basic quests, the only way they change is via the story they tack onto it). It has the skill / fps requirements that come with a fps game (that most MMO players tend to lack alot of).

At the end of the day its a MMOFPS and that it tends to do fairly well given what the game has to offer. There really is only so much story / fluff you can pack onto a multiplayer fps. Heck the game offers as much varity as any other FPS out there. You have your standard capture, kill, protect missions an that covers just about any modern fps game.

It will be interesting to see where the game goes, if the growing population ingame continues to increase over of the next few months.

And who the heck still visits Eurojaded ? They have got to be the single worst game review website in the entire world. (I have yet to find a worst one..)

APB chains and built-in wall-hacks.

This game trolls itself.

People would complain more if said wallhack was removed and one of the teams always lost due to being unable to find the opposition which they are supposed to kill.

@kasapina

So what youre saying is that it's okay to have a feature in your game that, if youre caught doing it in any other FPS, results in permaban because it's only unfair to criminal players?

The solution you present is total strawman.

Nope, I'm saying that the feature is ok since it is necessary - if the enforcers didn't have it, they would barely have a chance, since the timer would run out and the criminals would win without either side being able to find the opposition. It's ok simply because it's better than the alternative.

I guess the game is buggy (voice chat never seems to work right for me, for example), but I've been playing 3-4 hours a day for the last week and haven't any wall hacks, have never had trouble with underpopulated zones and haven't had any issues with the driving or shooting. The game is a blast and the mission and match making systems mean I always have a fight to look forward to. Like, I'm reading most of your comments and thinking, "Damn, the game they're talking about sucks. Glad I'm not playing that and I'm playing APB instead."

I guess local conditions can do a lot to change your opinion, or something.

I can't help but feel a little smug about all this. I got turned down for a job testing APB over a year ago. Other folks who went with me seemed to get in though, even though none of them seemed to have spent any time playing MMO's in the past few years. They seemed to prefer taking on people fresh out of University with a degree in software engineering versus people who had actually played and tested these sorts of games in the past and could tell them if it was any damn good.

This may of course simply be the biased opinion of a butt hurt application reject. Feel free to make what you will of it.

If that's the case, it serves them right if the game is mediocre. The decision to hire software engineers to test the gameplay over MMO or FPS players is beyond retarded. You would think they would see the logic in using actual players to test before alpha and beta, and during.

I could understand turning someone down who barely plays FPS or MMO games, though.

"While Massively has a long-standing policy against reviewing MMORPGs..."

That shouldn't be a problem here, since APB is actually a shooter.

Why is Massively still talking about this game? It may have been marketed as an MMG, but if can call my cat a dog, that doesn't mean Dog Fanciers magazine will cover it.

It seems there is mass ignorance in the MMO genre. It is still an MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER GAME.

Massively covers MMOs, not just the RPG ones.

I don't recall APB being marketed as an MMG, so I guess massively are just suckers for GTA :D

I'm sure everyone who played the game had mixed feelings about it. I for one was having a blast my first 40 hours admist some bugs. Now, the game is becoming to be a bit boring after those hours, which I certainly expected to happen.

But you can't expect a shooter compete with an MMORPG. RPGs are already known to be much longer than shooters. Is APB worth 9.99 a month? Hell to the no. But then again I don't see many MMORPGS worth there 14.99 a month. You don't get content every month with a lot of MMORPGs. They just charge you and you just take it because you want to get through the content you already paid for (49.99) but can only access it by paying the said 14.99 fee.

So before you say APB isn't worth it, look at your own sub you are paying and are you really getting what you are paying for.

I was one of those raving this was the stupidest game ever, then got into a good group with a few other regulars and have mad fun.. The only thing preventing this game from its optimal performance is the hackers.. I'd say over 60% of the population hacks and its not fun playing against these guys.. so when you get around to rank 60-100 its fun, once over that, you are fighting nothing but hacks. I guess a good thing is its so simple to tell a hack in this game.. he shooting your buddy who is north of him and your enemy, and the enemy kills him, does a instant 180 and 2 shots you from 200 meters...
If RT does something about the hacks the game might prevail.... but it seems that the population is so hacky, that if RT does something about it.. the game might flop... so its looking its going to be like a hack fest.. as $ prevails
