Bioware's biggest strengths have always their storytelling and their ability to create likable, interesting characters, not innovative game-play. Anyone expecting some kind of MMO game-play revolution that's going to change everything we thought we knew about the genre is quite frankly deluding themselves.

-All player will have a heroic storyline.
-Troopers and BH are sufficient heroic to be capable to fight against a Jedi/Sith
-You have the combat role flexibility throught Advanced Class system, advanced skills and companions.

What is changing here?

You need combine your group members skills and companions and find the correct combination in every situation.

Is best use the Jedi Knight how tank against the Sith officer or is best use the Trooper? We need more healing power for defeat this situation, must use more healer companions. Etc. You can be support in some situation or the key for resolve other situation.

Many people are posting overreacting for nothing.

People are upset they are showing the MMO aspect of the game, really? You don't want them to have a trinity system? Really? How will they handle the epic and long fights against hard bosses? By dying 20 times a fight?

Some of the comments here were so stupid, I hope they were written by 12 year olds.

MMOs are MMOs, you WILL have to grind. You will have specific roles, especially in a PvE based MMO. Live with it or go play single player games that it looks like you seek.

The Old Republic has been a lot of hype up until now. It's Bioware's job to get everyone excited of course, but when all of that anticipation is followed up with a video that looks like it could be from any number of MMOs out today I think people have the right to sort of rebel against it.

Up until now, I think many of us were wondering how the big, epic stories would fit into an MMO type world, and perhaps thought of the possibility of a revolution of what an MMO could be. Now that's basically shattered - it's tank and spank like we've been doing for years.

I'm sure it will be a good game, but I'm also sure that a game like Final Fantasy XIV will be far more innovative. It's just a sad realization that no, ToR will not be heralding in the next generation of MMOs.

But Densha82, what's FFXIV doing that's so innovative? It's not really doing anything FFXI didn't. You can change classes on the fly, but you could do that at your Mog House in FFXI at any time. FFXIV is hardly going to be innovative. It'll use the trinity same as FFXI. And just because a game uses the Trinity doesn't mean it can't be notable. If TOR has a huge epic story on top of the Trinity, it'll still be very notable.

I am so Let down. I was psyched!

Star Wows is nothing but a dressed up Tank n' Spank. Deny it all you want. The proof in this video is irrefutable.

Thouroughly uninspiring.

It's rather comical that that shining beacon of gloriousness for their multiplayer combat video is the NPC dialogue instancing feature.

It's not that there's really anything bad there, there just isn't anything particularly good.

So far they are banking on voice overs and hand holding guided path storyline for their success. One of their developers should probably pick up a copy of Guild Wars. It's been done before and people don't like it, and that was on a game that didn't require a subscription to play.

Storyline is the driving force in single player games. It doesn't work in MMOs. Most people don't care about a storyline, because the appeal of an MMO for many people is to set their own path, create their own story, reach their own goals. It's also a major development issue. If your game is storyline-centric and theoretically has no end point, then you have to continually add on to the story to keep people playing. That is a losing proposition given the way MMOs function after they are launched.

is it just me, or can't i see anything new and fresh here? tbh, combat looks outdated already - not nearly as interactive as lets say AoC ... this is the same old story in star-wars-cloths. dissapointing.

Looks pretty cool. Seemless integration into the story is great, and I presume people who don't want to hear it just stand out and do w/e. GREAT. Can't tell you how cool it was the first time I heard Saurfang do his speech before we kill his son. I also can't tell you how lame it is to hear the same 5 minute long speech 2 times a week every week.

Ranged tanking is awesome. Certainly a different concept other than the occasional gimmick fight in mmo's.

While I'm sure upon launch 90% of the populus will be jedi/sith. But the devs said specifically at E3 "yeah we are trying to balance everything so well because we know everyone will want to play a jedi cause they're awesome, but we need the soldiers and assasins, etc, to be just as good so when they wipe up an entire group of your team the player sits there and says to himself 'wow the soldier is awesome too!' and people start to differentiate"

People are saying people are demanding too much from bioware, but MMO gamers are not typical. If we're gonna be paying 15$ a month we want a whole lot more.

And for the combat/graphics comments, check out TERA. It looks far more polished and has an innovative combat system. My problem is if you took bioware and star wars out of the equation and replaced it with swords and magic no one would be all that excited.

Biowares a great company but they've never done an MMO before. Moreover, while they haven't made a bad game they've made some only-decent games (EX: Jade Empire and IMO Dragon Age). This looks like it will be good, but nothing great. And I really wanted to like it

Every time I come to massively to check out any new MMO, commenters tend to fall into one of two categories on the gameplay:

Category one:
"THIS IS GONNA SUCK" and "ITS ALL THE SAME I HATE SAMENESS" and "I HATE WARCRAFT AND THIS RESEMBLES WARCRAFT THEREFORE I HATE IT" followed by the fanboys defending the game.

Category two:
"THIS GAME DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT HAS MY THING THAT I LIKE IN MMOS SO I HATE IT" and "HOW ARE THEY POSSIBLY GOING TO MAKE THIS GAME FUN IF IT DOESN'T HAVE THAT THING THAT I LIKE" and "THIS IS GONNA SUCK" followed by the fanboys defending the game.

This also happens on the graphics.

So far, the games that are hated by category one (Ultima Online, EQ, WoW, FFXI, etc.) have done considerably better than the games hated by category 2.

Personally I'd much rather play an updated version of Quake where I shoot guys in the face and laugh about it (CoD, Halo 3) than a re-magined version where I have to shoot MYSELF in the face and cry about it to win. Because it's fun.

I gotta say, seeing gameplay from this game disappoints me. The quality of the game looks good, don't get me wrong. And I know Bioware make solid games, and I'm a huge fan of the kotor-series, but their MMO seems so traditional. It's going to be the same deal as WoW, tank, healer dps, grind, skills on buttons 1, 2, 3 and the enternal, neverending hunt for better equipment, only it'll be set in the star wars universe. Frankly, I got enough of that demonic dance in world of warcraft and I want something else. Whatever little tweaks they make in the concepts of the game, will most likely be minor changes from the core idea.

I was hoping to see some kind of development of the whole concept pioneered by Everquest, World of Warcraft etc, something new. A new way of playing MMOs.

Oh well, maybe I'm just being negative. Either way, Bioware will likely make a solid game, I'm just praying it isn't going to be just another MMO.

This game will be one big foolishness as Bastila would say... I miss those days when games were treated like a way to inspire imagination and they were ambitious. Well KOTOR (1) was a masterpiece just like Mass Effect 2. The amount of content was enormous and the gameplay was really enjoyable. Bioware makes this MMO game for ca$h... and I hope they get enormous amout of it so they can make KOTOR 3 better than KOTOR 2 (but as a continuation of the second part).

As for the game I can say that it *looks* childish, and it is nothing new in MMO gameplay that werent in other games (however there wont be grinding I think). The dialog system is cool though and its a good thing it is a fully voiced MMO so I will try it for sure but I thin I wont play any jedi class cause its a disgrace to play jedi who hold their lightsabre like a beseball bat xD

I relly think Bioware should make Knights of the Old Republic 3 and definitely finish that game cause they didnt finished it.
