Star Wars fans love clones. There will be a lot of troopers.

The Trooper is more than just a regular soldier, it's more like a Commando. Many of the TOR Dev's have already stated that the Trooper/Bounty Hunter classes are by far their personal favorites already.

I'm sorry to burst your fanboy bubbles, but besides the fact that whatever class happens to be the devs' "favorite (which is irrelevant when it boils down to the average player choosing a class), I guarantee you they are just saying that because they know Jedis are bound to be the most popular classes by a wide margin.

Clones may be a fan favorite, but how many people want to be a disposable pawn in an MMO? My guess is not so many.

I am totally going to be playing a trooper. That is most likely what I am going to make first, either that or a Bounty Hunter.

I imagine there will be a bunch of Jedi's running around but I don't think that the other classes will be as rare as so many thing. Among my friends it is all split pretty evenly about who wants to play what.

"So if every group requires a tank and healer... I just imagine this be a LFG nightmare."

true but how is this different than just about every other MMO based on "holy trinity" group dynamics. Only way around that is to make every class fairly independent but that leads to solo'ing more than grouping which will cause the "MMO single player" complaint.

basically they're caught between a rock and a hard place. If there's grouping, there have to be group roles, the "cog in the machine" gameplay. It's been there since D&D first edition and I don't see it going away anytime soon.

SWG came pre-ruined when they decided to make it Ultima Online in space.

If you ask me it seems ok. The more I see of it the less excited I am actually. Nothing groundbreaking imo. WoW with cutscenes and dialog lets hope it ends up being more than that.

If the Consular's party role is anything close to what and I choose to play one, I'd much rather just solo.

The prominence of the holy trinity managed to curb my enthusiasm for this one by a large margin.

Exceedingly boring video. Exceedingly boring combat. Totally focused on the wrong player character. Really, the focus is the healer? THE HEALER? In a multiplayer COMBAT demo??? Epic Fail.

Come on man think about it, if it foucsed on the tank what would you see? Lol...nothing but the mob in front of him

The healer was the best choice, you could see all the classes

Hoping for addons :)

Let these other guys argue about the trinity of group combat.

I'm looking for UI addons, too, because you're right: that one is butt ugly!

How is this game ANY different than EQ?

Honestly, it's been 10 years and THIS is what they show us? You know what I see in this video?

EQ > WOW > EVERY THING ELSE (save a few)

The "Holy Trinity" strikes again, proving once more that the only thing MMO game designers are capable of doing is iterating on a design that is getting old, fast. It's like JRPGs, how many times can you play variants on FF7's game mechanics before it's just another JRPG? Look, I want to love SW:TOR, but did your game designers play ANYTHING other than WoW or EQ, or any of their clones?

I guess when you're dropping $200m on an IP that's supposed to save the EA MMO fiasco (and keep BioWare afloat--they're leveraged to the hilt), risk isn't part of the equation. I understand that and I know why they take that path. I just don't understand why our game designers are incapable of breaking beyond it.

Massively Single-Player Holy Trinity $15/month game for the yawn.

Apparently you forgot the fact there will be companions in later levels to help prevent locking in players to specific roles. At early levels, the roles are more defined, as it is an easy way to introduce players to a new MMO. Later on the class abilities and roles get more complex, and start allowing variety.

Yes, and I am surprised that players still yell and cheer for the next iteration of a design that hinders the evolution of the genre as whole for too long already
