If you're not a regular Darkfall player, it's easy to have a one-sided view of the game as a nonstop PvP gank-factory. And while the team at Aventurine make no secret about their feelings on how casual gamers intersect with their genre, there's a lot more to the game than simply hunting other players. The upcoming free expansion is a case in point, focusing on the PvE aspects of play to make them more engaging. It's a far-reaching set of changes to the PvE side of things, at that.
New monsters are being added along with new behaviors and tactics, meaning that players will have to think before engaging their enemies. Dungeons will be similarly improved, with monsters and quests added across the board to improve the experience of dungeon crawling. The full list of planned updates can be read here on the official forums, where we also find a preliminary launch date for the expansion of July 18th. Darkfall players should look forward to the upcoming expansion, as it promises to add many more play aspects to the already multi-faceted game.

Yes, monsters will now run in circles in the anti-clockwise direction in addition to the previously implemented clockwise direction!

Good point. Which direction do the mobs move in your MMO to make it harder for you to connect when you aim your arrow or time your swing?

Good to see Darkfall is still expanding. I've never played, but it always looked interesting.

i loved darkfall, the pvp and territory control was great.
darkfall failed because the devs couldn't stop people from duping millions of reagents and reaching lvl 100 in all magic schools in 5 days.
sorry, i won't play an MMO dominated by cheating and exploits.

I have missed Darkfall in many ways, and am happy to see that it is getting better graphics, however the rest of the patch/expansion notes just do not cover enough of what is needed. Better mob AI and a few instances... pfft... It's not what is needed, and new ship warfare is not needed as much either, as a good SKILL CAP system. It also badly needs some way to almost reset the old veteran players' attributes at the same time, without taking awya all of the hard work (macroing) at the same time. If there was a re-launch of Darkfall, I know that almost everyone who has ever played Darkfall would resub.
At the moment there is little point in subbing, especially as a new player, because the game is dead in population and all the veteran players are impossible to catch up to. People say you can catch up to them within around 4 months, but that is not even possible, because there is no cap for attributes. In the 4 months you train, they will be training their stats at the same time and will always be stronger, thanks to afk macroing/running/swimming.

At the moment, there is more reason than ever to start playing Darkfall. Free trial, stat increases tweaked toward noobs and magic is nerf'd (but not for long I'd wager). Those who play already know this. I try to play casually but things are getting so fun I find myself logging in more and more. It's true, this game is not for everyone. If you would rather hit tab to select your target as opposed to having to actually aim your bow shots and your sword swings, enjoy Cataclysm. If you'd rather sit in a chat room called a "city" waiting for your instance "PVP", enjoy Cataclysm. If you'd rather use taxi service boats instead of building and sailing your own, enjoy Cataclysm. If you'd rather turn invisible or stun lock to defeat your opponent instead of openly charging them and going toe to toe, enjoy Cataclysm. I hope you get in the closed beta, honestly. And I hope you stay the F@#K out of my game and the forums. I'm staying out of yours.
However, if you want to "feel" the excitement of running from pkers as spells and arrows fly past you all the while hollering in Vent "WE GOT INC" as your clannies prepare for an ambush of said pkers....come and see, come and see...we'll be waiting...with open arms and sharpened steel.
...lost but not forgotten...

When you said "I hope you get in the closed beta, honestly. And I hope you stay the F@#K out of my game and the forums. I'm staying out of yours.", was that directed at me? I havn't mentioned WoW at all, and I loved Darkfall, and I am still very passionate about it. I was simply stating that the expansion does not cover what is truly needed in the game, and I went on to state what I believe it should have included.
I can see that it may not have been directed at me because of the context, but with it being right after my post I am not sure whether to assume if it was aimed at me, or aimed at people who prefer WoW in general.

I do apologize jadsta...it wasn't directed specifically at you and now I can see how you might think that. It was directed toward people that criticize the game who currently don't play. From the way you worded your post, I interpreted that you do not. And I only chose WoW because I feel alot of people are familiar with it's game mechanics. And there was an update on Cataclysm beta.
I played a few months after launch and it was pretty bad. Hackers everywhere, no love at all for new players and not a lot of info was available. I only stayed for a few months. I can't stress how much better the game is now. I resubbed in Jan. and haven't encountered a hacker since. There is a guild specifically for new players now. The health gains received from stat skill ups are now front loaded to benefit noobs. The OP magic splash damage has been nerfed. I've heard about the possibility of being ray'd down in like 6 seconds but have yet to see it. IMO the splash damage reduction really helps give you a fighting chance now. Which means vets that have relied heavily on those tactics are now having to relearn how to melee and aim their bow. The gap is narrowing. A golden age is dawning in Agon...
I would also like to apologize to the community for the use of the f~bomb. I visit this site as I believe there seems to be a certain level of decorum that people conduct themselves by. I, unfortunately, brought that down a notch. My bad. I get a little fired up sometimes.
