Let me guess, their players were "loud and clear" in wanting more $25 mounts to be milked with on top of their monthly subscription?

I almost thought these were somewhat crappy looking EQ2 mounts up for purchase, than I noticed that this was for EQ1.

If SOE really wants the EQ2 folks to go nutz with station items, put in exclusive house decoration sets and items, they'd sell faster than sparkle ponies.

When I say I hate cash shops in subscription based games, this game is a shining example of what I'm talking about.

As I said to my friend, for $25 I should get a freakin horseagatchi. It should have moods, and feeding mini games and stats, and help me in combat, and sidequests, and customization and it should probably do something cool like fart lightning and breath cupcakes.

Jokes aside, $25 is half a game, and the horse buyable should be half a game really. It shouldn't have anything that helps you with raids or anything, but $25 crosses into the realm of there should be gameplay involved.

Why am I not surprised at all....

I just hope there will still be some "ethical" games left after this settles down.

edit: Oops, but seriously 25 dollar/euro/whatever thats an expansion!

Its not the PvP or PvE or RP or Casual or whatever crowd that will "kill" mmo's.
No sir, its the people who endorse these type of transactions.

A bit of a hyperbole, but seriously 1 model = expansion pack? Something is very wrong.

*Sigh we can complain and dread the greediness of these companies all we want but in reality, its the **UNWISE SOULS** that keep buying this **POOP**. Why else would SOE introduce this stuff if they didnt think they have a good chance that people will pay that price? **BEEPED BY FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD EDITOR, PLEASE NO PROFANITY TY*

Very correct.

That is what voting with your wallet means if I can state the obvious to get the message across.

I'm still expecting a rise in indy popularity because of these trends.
Since most big budget (if not all) titles will adopt and have adopted similar tactics.

In the end, people will get what they have asked for right. I think we are way past the point of getting angry. Since it hasn't changed anything so far.

Lol good job Sony is ahead again of the cash shop game (that btw keep me away from playing this). With 2 25 bucks horses! Woot!

Btw is it just be or do the graphics of this game look really bad... that horse look like someone just shot him in the leg? And the background and toon on top do not look much better!

Independent studios pioneer new ideas, Activision-Blizzard add polish, but it takes SOE to really milk an idea for every last cent of it's worth.

Expect a new type of mount from SOE every month now.

Personally I still would never pay more for an in-game item than I do for an entire game - that horse could shat out platinum coins every hour on the hour and I still wouldn't pay $25 for it. Plus I still think item selling is evil so I'm not going to do anything to support it... well, not evil, but cynical profiteering is probably the nicest thing I can say about it.

I don't know exactly why these companies are beginning to sell $25.00 mounts. It could either be greed, or revenues are not keeping up with costs, or a mix of both. But the industry seems to be going in this direction.

Many people (myself included) are concerned that the increase in cash shops in P2P games will affect the quality of the games, i.e. slowing down xp gain to increase the demand for xp potions on the cash shop. But as long as people are willing pay the near equivalent of a two month subscription to buy a fluffy sparkle pony that has no effect on gameplay, then that means that the developers won't have to change the gameplay to increase cash shop sales, but still see the increase in revenue that they desire. So I don't really have a problem with this.
