If you really want the classic EQ experience, join us in the EQ Macintosh Edition server. It's stuck in time just after the initial Planes of Power expansion in late 2002. It's wonderful!

I just discovered this too, I did find that the population was a bit sparse, but definitely a good idea for those who are interested!

Hi everyone,

We ask that you refrain from linking and discussing illegal and/or unofficial servers and activities in the comment threads. And maybe reread those EULAs again. :)

Thank you!

That is if you did indeed sign a EULA prior to trying the game....

Private servers are part of the industry and are prevalent, just look at what is happening with SWG pre-CU private servers. I'm surprised you guys are targeting something like this as being illegal, but it's OK to post screen shots of SW:TOR beta invites, which have legal protection in place, but I guess are far more newsworthy.

If you go back through the comments of old stories you can see links, discussion and comments surrounding private servers and staff members have commented also without moderation. I guess these new moderation powers go beyond salacious comments and building a friendly approachable community. Disappointing.

Whoever is on the payroll gets special access with Massively. They're a business and advertise for the people with cash.

Umm yeah I think I agreed with you on at least talking about private servers, I really don't subscribe to you point of view Bartlebe. Sometimes, I guess people can just say too much.

What is going on with the moderation. Do you have a regular delete comment button? Looks really bad right now.

Thanks for posting. Sorry that someone hijacked it.

The character model is actually from the Shadows of Luclin expansion, which was out when Aerick was first created in '02.

I'm so loving my return trip to EQ and think I shall stay for a while. For people who would like to see where modern-day MMO's came from, go check out EQ. It's still quite a good game. The old school zones are, in many ways, still more original and awesome than some of the best of new zones in games out today. I was reading an awesome post about the Coldain military war for one of the major Velious quests and it took me back to some major fun times, when entire open-world zones would become raids as wars literally played themselves out between Giants and Dwarfs, with players making the difference one way or the other. Raids in most games (including modern expansions from eq) just aren't that immersive anymore.
