"SGDCZ DUZGZ RKZMC DCVHS GRDQU DQLDQ FDZMC BGZQZ BSDQS QZMRE DQCDS ZHKR" was the mysterious message posted by Aion's Andrew "Tamat" Beegle yesterday. The jumble of letters on Twitter and the Aion notice page was decoded pretty quickly by players: "THE DAEVA HAS LANDED WITH SERVER MERGE AND CHARACTER TRANSFER DETAILS."
Aion confirmed the server merge and character transfers today with more details as well as a comprehensive FAQ covering all the details. The merge will happen on July 7th, and character transfers will begin on the 8th. Players can take advantage of free unlimited character transfers until August 18th, and then they will continue to be available for a fee. Once the server merge happens and transfers begin, there will be a number of contests and events coming both in and out of game.
Check out all the details on the Aion site.

There is more then 10k per server alright, the current active servers have over 600-700 active players on each side on prime time.
On average you usually say that there is between 6 to 10 times the player per server when the prime time is.
In any event even if it have 100k players it's a decent and high enough number. Game have never been announced WOW killer except by fans. Thats pretty much all. It doesn't even complete in the same league of WOW.
In any event this server merges is just a good thing for Aion nothing bad at all about this, for those who think that merging server equals just bad, LOL thats far from the truth., This will kick start some of the worser off servers who don't have enough active PVP players. And hope fully balance out the sides for an more even PVP game.

NCWest finally confirms what a lot of people said and what NCWest people refused to acknowledge for a long time. Now is clear to see that Aion lost over 70% of the player base after just a few month after launch. I want to see all the fanboys who were claiming that everything is OK and there is no population problem on the servers. Maybe without those losers and their fanboysm server merger could have been in place month ago, when was not too late.

apparently the void left by the aion players that came to raid the polls caused alot of servers to implode. /sarcasm

If you talk about "active" server you forgot a 1 in front of those numbers.
Heck they merged even the higher populated server, that would be considerd "High" by WoW standards, with another server that would be considered as "Medium" and and allot die plan to switch over to the first server with the free severtransfers since a while ago.
While the even since start (atleast in postcounts and accounts) outnumbering hater of this game allong bypassing AoC/WAR fanboys disliking it sherish this announcement, player are more concerned about lags and insane zerg developement, if they arent happy instead about the merges and transfers or bother about balance.
With the activities currently not noticeable lower or higher than 5-6 months ago at average (the crucial point since much grew unbalanced) after the drop, its not like we didnt expect any merge at all since a while or fear of this announcement of merges as sign of recently dropping numbers.
Thats mostly word of those who quit long ago and stil feel urged to hit the game in the back, a few loud individuals and some not even involved into this game.

Well the hater can finally pat their shoulders. Their constant rant, daily spread of negative rumors and lies about the game not few of them barely or never played (as allot of posthistories prove), the jumping into complaints of a game and hyping or rolling them up all day over again with their alts and sockpuppets and help of some ragequitter, shure had helped to disgrunt or fear of quite a lot of potential player. Who might not be worried when every Newspost of a game is filled with foulmouthed complaints? Doesnt matter if most of them never played they game at all or the last half year. Most mandatory for MMOs to survive, unless it lives from constant hype and advertisement aimed at non mmo player.
For a game facing so much in some cases semiprofessional attention from hater, outshining the complaints player themself have, it actually did prove itself pretty good with the lack of hype it received compared to other game releases or still releasing.
Ofcourse not to expect from them to agree on the latter and deny their involvement. With the current developement of the game you will mostly see the same people still spread their "information", as they do now, did half a year ago and are going to continue the next years, unless a bigger title steps into the light to prove itself . Maybe not the same names but the same people behind.

All the new games face the rage of trolls and disillusioned players. Aion's problem was the lack of professionalism of NCWest people to counter the false information, to help users overcome the problems, to create the atmosphere of the game to make events with the community. NCWest did nothing, they simply hid under one big rock and hoped that the community will take care of itself alone, and they'll make money by disregarding any cries for help , or suggestions to improve the game or updates or content additions.

The funny part is that Aion in the west went from 31 to 13 servers and the "InfiniteAion" private Aion server just expanded from 1 into 2 servers. This says a lot about how good the is NCWest at managing Aion. L2 story again.

Ya know I still want to like this game, but it never lived up to its own expectations. What a shame. I kind of miss it, but it's a Fail and not just because of this server merge.
Maybe it'll go F2P some day. Then I'll check in on its... "progress".

I think Aion is a phenomenal game. The biggest problem was it's grind, and it had a huge grind, and that alone is the reason they lost players (including me). However, after 1.9 I've heard the grind has lessened (even if it's only via repeatable quests, better than doing nothing but grinding mobs with no goal in mind at all).
I'm resubscribing today, and I don't think server merges are bad. It allows the current players to have a better experience, what's bad about that?
