"SGDCZ DUZGZ RKZMC DCVHS GRDQU DQLDQ FDZMC BGZQZ BSDQS QZMRE DQCDS ZHKR" was the mysterious message posted by Aion's Andrew "Tamat" Beegle yesterday. The jumble of letters on Twitter and the Aion notice page was decoded pretty quickly by players: "THE DAEVA HAS LANDED WITH SERVER MERGE AND CHARACTER TRANSFER DETAILS."
Aion confirmed the server merge and character transfers today with more details as well as a comprehensive FAQ covering all the details. The merge will happen on July 7th, and character transfers will begin on the 8th. Players can take advantage of free unlimited character transfers until August 18th, and then they will continue to be available for a fee. Once the server merge happens and transfers begin, there will be a number of contests and events coming both in and out of game.
Check out all the details on the Aion site.

I think Utakata is referring to Choose My Adventure, where Shawn just ended his time in Aion. :3

Yes, Sera is right...I was indeed referring to that. As well as making a tounge and cheek reference at that server merges being usually a bad sign of diminishing player subscriptions at Shawn's expense. :)
...though sorry for the confusion there, MrGutts. :(

Unlimited free transfers is really pretty great! I would not have anticipated this.
Good decision on the part of NCSoft.

That is Abyss rank, which is no big deal. Abyss rank can change as you spend Abyss Points or even during battle. The other night during some contested fortress sieges, top ranked players were dropping like flies on both sides and that certainly would affect the rankings. I think in just the 15 minutes or so I was paying attention there was something like 25 in-game announcements of top ranked characters biting the dust. Lots of points being won and lost right there.
Soldier ranks are unlimited in numbers, just based on your points, while officer ranks go: 1,000 - 700 - 500 - 300 - 100 - 30 - 10 - 3 - 1 so only the very top ranks are even going to be shuffled around some.

IGN just confirmed the news !!
US servers are going from ... 13 to 4 ! and Eu from 18 to 8
That means a shrinking of around 70% of its player base and servers.
Oceanic stays at 1
A simple count means Aion in the west is only played by around 120 K max players now (ratio of 10K per server is the industry's average).
Another WOW killer bites the dust.
I predicted it would be FAR under 150 K within 6 months in the west.
the recent news of the number of servers just confirms it.
The game has always been a complete and utter money grabber with absolutely no decent gameplay at all.
