In reading through the first page and a half of comments I would draw the conclusion that most gamers (that read this site and have the nerve to post) are parents or more or less the usual people. I think that MMO's have become a hobby like anything else and don't differeciate their participants more than the guy with the RC plane or the guy who like to go to the shooting range. If you are going to start drawing sterotypes the fat lazy nerd-raging gamer is something that is an extreme case. Though like all extreme cases it's the one that the media likes the most.

I probably fit the stereotype more than most. Mostly because I am a homebody. That said I have no inclination of nerfing a walmart, I'm not fat, though I'm not fit either. My social skills suck. They weren't that good before I started playing MMO's either. I put about as much effort into my typing as I do into my writing, the primary difference is that sometimes I work up the effort to cut and paste into spellcheck. At the end of the day it's just a hobby. I'm sure you can find someone just like me who is into more "normal" things. I'm sure there are plenty of folks out there who are into more "normal" things that are twice as screwed up as the person who nerfs a wall-mart.

I guess to some degree I am. I mean, I'm a total slob but that's always been how I am. MMO's didn't suddenly devolve me. Other then that, the only part of that I fit is the social life part. But that comes more from my shyness and severe social anxiety then not being able to part from my MMO's :p. What can I say, not everyone was meant to be a social butterfly.
