This doesn't make sense though. Isn't this just a localization of an existing game? Why would they be talking about restricting race/classes now?

They've been given the greenlight by Bluehole (the Korean developers) to adjust the game for us in the West. Experience curve, quests, lore, whatever they think is necessary.

If they're adjusting the story or fleshing out the backstory of certain races differently from the Korean version then it makes complete sense. Since the game is still in development (in every nation) it might be that these are changes that will also impact the Korean game...

So basically they are going to cut corners to save money by limiting certain races to certain armors, weapons, and classes. Kinda like how aion cut corners on world dev by eliminating swimming, instancing each zone and putting extreme limits on flight.

I LOVE LOCALIZATION. When it doubt, blame it on your customers!

You do realise that when Aion localization started the game was already live for 7-8 months in Korea and they couldn't change the game that much where as Tera is still in Alpha.

Like ChaosBolt said they have the green light from BH to rebuild the game to fit the western market and EnMasse Entertainment/Blue Hole has been very open to the community till now compared to NCSoft/NCwest.

Goonja you are right. NCSoft already cut the corners, as John was saying, in the Korean version from the start. No swim, restricted flight, high instancing of zones was a design decision normal for a company that dumps on market a new MMO every year (like Aion), then forgets aboiut it and starts to hype the next MMO (Blade & Soul). I hope that Tera is going to be 'the MMO' of Bluehole (like Eve for CCP or WOW for Blizzard) not just the first in a long line of crap MMO made by Bluehole.

"I love localization" was said with extreme sarcasm. I am well aware that it's a fraud. Localization is mmorpg snake oil. It's a nonsense word that gets thrown around and applied to everything. In this case, they are going to cut corners in TERA to save money but they are claiming it's for "localization".

So, when they say they are "removing" armor/classes from races for "localization", I intemperate that as they are not going to invest the time or money to have all races be all classes and be able to wear all weapons and armors. While Guy A will say it's because of "localization", I know full well that if the art files aren't in the western version, it's because they didn't make them in the korean version at all. They aren't going to remove finished and paid for art assets just because the "western" audience might find it "silly".

So yeah. They are cutting corners and putting the blame on the customers. "We didn't do this extra work because this is what you wanted, really!"

I was initially really excited about tera but the more and more pr bs I read the less I am looking forward to it. Too many contradictory statements and outright lies for me to stomach.
