It's a big day for Final Fantasy XI players the world over, as the much-discussed June version update has finally gone live. And with that comes a heretofore unprecedented change, as the level cap jumps once again for the first time in years past the old limit of 75. Unfortunately for those who had been hoping to avoid the process of the Limit Break quests, the patch notes confirm that players will have to undertake a new quest to reach the new cap of 80. Of course, there needs to be something to slow down the rush to all the new content, right?
And there's quite a bit of that going around with this update -- even neglecting the raise in level cap, there are new Wings of the Goddess quests, the Walk of Echoes, newly uncapped zones, and new options in Moblin Maze Mongers. Not to mention that Visions of Abyssea goes live with the update, complete with a small update on the official site about the Empyrean Weapons. So if you haven't started patching your copy of Final Fantasy XI, now would be the ideal time -- the patch is large, and there's a lot to be done.

Good thing the dataminers have already informed us the new limit break quest is pretty simple. I won't spoil it if you don't want to know, but it's been posted all over Bluegartr and Zam forums.
But yeah, this is the single biggest update to the game in years - both in scope and in number of useful new items. Basically on par with a full expansion imo. And the dat miners can't even tell us what will come out of the new magian trials yet...

Haha Bluegartr forums.
Reminds me of the good old days, trying to bot Fafnir and Nidhogg in the Aery, with all the original BG botters in attendance, as NA and JP fought each other off week after week with Mr Argus or whatever bot we were using.
Is this patch going to remedy what's still wrong with the game? Shitty economy, world bosses that pit LS vs LS and latency wars that have the JP winning most of the claims?
Didn't think so.

Ahhhh that darn update screen. I used to leave that running and go on vacation just to come home to a "53%" update.
Good times, good times.
Still, it's nice to see an older game still getting the love it does!

Speaking of data mining.
Holy {Shift key}!
This was the conversation when the developers were designing equipment for this patch:
"Hey, what do you think of this, Tanaka? New pants for MNK, CHR+10 STR-5 MP+25!"
"Scrap it..."
"But... but it's so deliciously useless, just like you've trained..."
"No. This time we make... USEFUL GEAR!"
"AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
*heads explode*
Anyway, some really, REALLY amazing gear being released that's making a few people a little scared that their salvage and abjuration gear may be swiftly obsolete. Of course the realists are chiming in that this stuff is probably going to be just as hard to get as salvage stuff, if not harder. Most are stunned.
My first thoughts were, wow... maybe SE isn't completely clueless after all. This bodes well for FFXIV.

If you need to know. There's a tutorial how to skip the 8 hour batch. (PC OnrY)

There's a bit of a audio delay. but in the video tells you how to do it
