Not really on topic, but it's very funny that both FFXIV and Tera showed battles with giant crabs for their E3 combat demos...

At least the crabs look dangerous now. No more fighting cute little animals that will annihilate you at max level now. :p

The new combat system still worries me. It could open up as you get new skills, but it looks very slow and cumbersome. Combat has come a loooong way since FFXI. Heck, even WoW feels slow compared to newer games like Champions or even LOTRO. Hopefully SE can improve it before launch.

Having played both WoW and Lotro, Id say tis more the other way around - combat in WoW is way too fast, considering that most mobs are so gimped that you kill them within 3 seconds of engaging them.

Well have to see how FF turns out, and maybe im in the minority, but the fact you cant jump or swim? Its a big deal to me. :(

Well, I seam to recall reading somewhere that the current battle system would not be used when the game launches. They have it standing in as the temporary battle system. Supposedly it is to be much faster paced than FF XI's combat system. Time will tell, but I do recall reading that....maybe a few weeks ago on FFXIVcore.com.

I think the demos had the new battle system.

If you want to see a video of it SE has one on You Tube.
Here's the link...

The Alpha version has the battle system they weren't going to use. The Beta version which was on display at E3 is the battle system that will be used in the final product. Not to say it won't be adjusted more from how it is now but the overall idea is there. It's really shaping up if you ask me.

Some cool aspects of this. I love that every quest (presumably?) will scale for whether you are solo or in a group, giving something for every type of player.

I also really like that the quest turnin spawns when you finish the quest, saving you from having to hoof it back to where you started. The most methodical pacing of combat is something I always liked in FFXI too, so no big surprise there.

Graphics looks nice but combat is beyond boring loooking with the same animation over and over as the toon attack.

Name a MMO that doesn't have the same animation attack over and over.

I can't think of one.

in the new battle system you don't have to wait on your stamina bar to fill up. Each action costs a X amount of sta. to activate. thus you can attack fast with weak less consuming actions or use heavy hitting attacks with taking a larger chunk of your stamina bar.

If you run out of stamina you then have to wait for it to recharge enough for your next action.

I disagree with the controller users being gimped. This type of menu is easily navigated with the D-pad. it's very fast.

Agreed about the controller. The D-pad lets you select your next action before hand, then you just hit the button to activate it. The reviewer has obviously never played FFXI seriously. Well, then again, none of the reviewers on Massively have played FFXI seriously...

Most of Massively's articles about FFXI are obviously written by someone that has yet to even see end-game or know anything at all about the current state of the game.

Massively is just turning into all of the rest of the media outlets for MMOs. Everything is compared to WoW or EVE and all the hype is placed on upcoming games because no one on staff seriously plays anything else. Massively should hire writers that already play the games they are supposed to review, not the other way around.

I know one thing though Im fucking done with WoW, that game is as stale as the bread in my kitchen.

Combat sounds like a good improvement to me, there are plenty of twitchy spaz style combat games out there already. I'm not sure how many have played XI, but in the later stages, after you have all your abilities/spells, and if you take on a challenging mob then you're just as busy as any other game I know of. I always think it's kind of funny when I play a new game and at lvl 10 I already have so many hot buttons they don't fit on the screen. XIV with an updated version of XI combat sounds just right to me.

Yay! Thanks for clarifying about the guild leves. I had noticed the deities on the leve cards before, it does sound like the background story will be intergrated more into everything you do in the game. ^_^

To be honest.... I'm just still stoked that the trailer still showed "Coming 2010" !! I'm about tired of waiting for more info. But here is some so I guess it could be worse. C'mon SOE fanfaire, maybe I'll get more info then. Like a release date. Global Agenda will hold me over until it comes out..... I hope!?!
