He was muzzled after the game failed to deliver on any of the amazing things he, paul and co. hyped for over a year.

I, like most people followed this game for a long time before it came out, got myself extremely excited and was sorely disappointed after the reality of the game experience was nothing close to what they had promised.

Sad to hear. Whenever I fondly think back on WAR as a player/blogger, Josh's coolness usually comes to mind. That said, I don't often think back on WAR too fondly as a player. Blogging was a hoot though!

I really hope he bounces back. He always came across as funny, smart, and well-versed in not only gaming but pop-culture and politics.

Somebody hire this guy!

@Disataste
I never said the popluation was higher. I am not a fool there are only 4 servers left. I said "helathier" and it is. Come back and play it's a different game now.

I almost took you seriously untill i went back and read some of your other posts. I didn't read them all because they were all so negative it was depresssing. Except for your APB posts and you'll turn on that one in time as well.

You are obviously an intelligent person and give good insight on games. So, stop calling for the end of every game that doesn't live up to your lofty expectations.

Good luck with your gaming. I am done. I hate forums/commenting.

Josh always seemed like a level headed guy, but quickly became a yes man for Mark, the Hickman and Paul. I have a feeling had he had more say in the direction of Warhammer, we wouldn't be where we are now with this game.

Your right and wrong. The problems with Warhammer come two fold. One side Games Workshop is demanding rewrites for portions of the content because they didn't agree with how the lore was handled or stamped the material as harmful to the IP. This quickly lead to content devs getting tired of trying to do anything new or interesting. On the other side of things you have Paul who is a great guy spreading himself out. The big 4 other than Jacobs are jet setting around the World hyping the game. This is fine an all till they come back and realize that no one bothered to do a good job on their work assignments. Paul had great ideas for the game but didn't have team who wanted to make a good game. Even if Warhammer would of had an addition year of development it still would of ended up this way.

Mythic's folly is this. Listen to your players, your testers, your community team, and your QA. Sometimes its better to trust the people playing the game 10 hours a day then a team lead with a spread sheet.

Paul Barnett had great ideas ??? wahahahaha !!

Great ideas dont make a good game. I remember looking at the early videocasts of this game and fast came to the conclution that Paul Barnet was probably the main reason I would NEVER be able to like this game.

Its the basic systems that makes a great game.. Mythic did not get ONE basic system right in WAR. Ideas all over the place I bet.. but NOTHING of it worked. Again .. NOthing !!

Crafting - RVR - sieges - fortresses - city sigies - PQs. These are actually the things that have been changed cause the basic systems sucked so badly. There are alot of other things that have not been worked on tho.. like maybe the AI ?

WAR is a great example on how NOT to do things. The sad thing about it tho - is that Bioware is probably gonna do just the same crap all over again. It doesn't even look like they are gonna care at all about the basic systems - they are only thinking story... So might turn out to be twice the fall.

Great Ideas are the foundation for good games. However even the best of ideas fails when transferring them from round table meetings and notes to practicality. Paul did have allot of great ideas, but most of them were watered down by developers who claimed, "we can't do it your way" or "Our way is better".

For example, siege weapons. Paul wanted them to be fairly portable and deployable any where. However because one developer felt writting the code to make them undeployable on hills was a more problematic solution then simply forcing them to deploy at preset points. While this example isn't game shattering this was SOP for Mythic during Warhammer development. Every time a new feature was requested or to be implemented, people went out of their ways to do as little as possible.

Another example was Crafting. They had really good notes and ideas to make a very fun and dynamic crafting system. I know that stuff like mini-game based crafting and open ended crafting were talked about. In the end though innovation got sacrificed to developers who purposely held other game aspects hostage. "Sure we can work on this new system B, but then we will be set back on System A."

Not everyone was inept or lazy, but the somehow the people who were end up in positions to screw things up. Sure I can blame the producers for not busting the balls when they needed to. I can blames Games Workshop for being a pain in the ass when they attempted to add content to the game. I can even blame EA for pushing and pushing to get the game out the door. But I don't.

Warhammer minus the hype wasn't a bad game. The problem is when you add up all the Hype it was never possible for the game to meet expectations.

As for Mythic to many GOOD people lost jobs because the WORTHLESS people decided their work time was better spent logging into WoW and AoC instead of hopping on the Beta servers to see their shitty work first hand.

Get ready to hear more news like this regarding WAR and DAOC. EA's going to start refocusing more and more funds to it's newest favorite child (TOR) at the expense of its other games, if it hasn't already.

I can't say that I blame EA at this point. God only knows how much money they lost on WAR.

I ask myself if this game would have succeeded if they were still an independent studio, but I don't think that they would have. Phone-guy and others bring up great points about how glaring the flaws in this game were.

The more I think about it, the more i realize that the team at Mythic, as a whole, just isn't that talented. Sure there were some great concepts and innovations, such as the PQ's, but even those failed horribly because they were only fun when people actually did them.

This game just infuriates me and I love to see negative news on it, not because i have always wished ill on it, but because I was so excited for this game and I really did try to like it. It was just such a tragic let down. I still don't understand how they botched it this bad.

I had such high hopes for this game. The IP was one that I could connect with so much more than Warcraft. I *loved* the Greenskins. The environments were awesome (most of them anyway). Open RvR for the most part was fantastic...

It's just that the game lacked so much in all other aspects. I recognize that this is an RvR-heavy game, and I'm glad it is...but there has to be some variety! Hopping around from zone to zone trying to find a fight gets really old really quick.

Let's hope 40k fairs better *knock on wood*
