And yet again no real questions were answered...

Will this game be space flight & trading simulation (as original Jumpgate was) in spirit of Freelancer and Elite (and EVE) .. as it was once planed to be.

Or is it now rewamped to just PVP battlegrounds & missions (as Black Prophecy will be)

Did you read the article?

"There are no instances in JGE"

Shawn, how did it compare to SWG Jump to Lightspeed expansion, which I have felt was probably the kind of experience they were maybe aiming at?

JTL as an engine and setting is amazing. Enough to get me to resubscribe for 30 days sometimes just so i can go blow up tie fighters.

SWG had very primitive arcade-style physics. JGE is Newtonian. It's a huge difference when things like gravity & drift affect your trajectory. The game does include "dampeners" to help newbies and make tight spaces less frustrating but the best pilots won't use them as the effect is to make flight paths predictable. In PvP, predictability = death.

Every time I see something for Jump Gate or Black Prophecy I get excited and then annoyed at the lack of details, information and progress.

"Those looking for real space combat" probably want to play with a joystick rather than mouse and keyboard.

FreeSpace, not Freelancer! :)

OMG FreeSpace...

But didn't Volition release the FreeSpace 2 source code? How come no one's yet taken that & converted it into an MMO? I'd be an instant subscriber. With any luck this game will be just what I'm looking for.

When you arrive at your destination 'system' (zone) after jumping, are you always at the same spatial co-ordinates relative to the gravity well, or just a fixed distance with a random vector applied?

Put another way, are jump point destinations just contrived bottlenecks used for ambushing/zergs? Can players camp jump points and simply rack up kills without effort or skill?

Gotta answer that before I get excited about space sim combat again. Also, what specific compared feature makes JGE better than Vendetta Online?

It's a random point and last time I had a chance to play there was limited invulnerability inside the gate itself (they are very big spacially)

'...better than Vendetta Online'? Are you actually serious with that phrase? No offense, but VO is barely on the radar map at all. The only people who even know it exist are people who are seriously into classic space combat genre type games to being with, and even then it hardly gets any discussion. Mind you, I don't think VO is downright horrible either, but it leaves a great deal to be desired, particularly in the flight mechanics department, which make it feel more like a traditional 'FPS in space' with all the multi-directional full speed strafing than a proper space combat sim.

Umm JGE does not want EVE's fans, EVE has the most boring excuse for space combat EVER. Really I mean really, EVE has tons of great features, but space combat isn't one of them,

One vs One combat in Eve, especially when one of those "ones" is a newb in a Kestrel can be pretty boring.

Other than that though, the combat in Eve is the most strategic awesomeness I've ever encountered.

I'd wager you never got very far with Eve to make such a comment.

"You're not setting a course for an asteroid and going to grab a sandwich." -- great EVE description! :)

But that's just who I think this game's target audience will/should be... not current EVE players, but players who don't a space MMO and don't want EVE (hell, I've given EVE three different trial periods and I still have no interest in it).

But yeah, still the lack of info still leaves it as a toss up between this and Black Prophecy

Does mouse control of direction work similar to how it did in Freelancer?

Oh God, mouse and keyboard....why?!?!?!

This is going to be another Freelancer abortion......I can feel it.

Does this iteration of the game have a cockpit view??
