The Interplay/Bethesda Fallout legal battle is one mired in as much speculation as it is in fact, although we do know that Interplay has been attempting to get a Fallout MMO project off the ground for some time now. Code-named V13, Fallout Online is currently Interplay's baby, although we haven't seen a clear go-ahead due to the legal struggle over the rights.
It was a bit of a surprise, then, to see a teaser website for Fallout Online launch with little fanfare. Currently, there isn't much there, just a brief glimpse at a workshop desk with various Fallout references to the Master, Brahmin, and Nuka-Cola before a form obscures the screen. You then can sign up for their mailing list, as well as a beta opt-in. Following that, you are unceremoniously sent to the Interplay forums.
It looks legit, too: Interplay is promoting Fallout Online from their main website, and the new teaser site is indeed registered to Interplay Entertainment Corp. Seeing as how Fallout fans are incredibly passionate about this franchise, even a hint that this MMO is progressing toward launch should come as a jolt of radioactive bliss. Check out the website and let us know what you think!

Interesting. I loved Fallout 3.

Its amazing to me how much closer this feels to being a true Fallout game than version 3 does. It's just a splash site, but it has the right atmosphere. The right art style, the right music, the right references...

I see I'm not the only one that hated Fallout 3. =P
Fallout 1 ftw.

From The Internets it would seem I'm the odd one out - I loved both 1 and 3, recently re-playing 1.

Fallout 3 was great, and I don't hate it by any means. But it really did lack the atmosphere that 1 & 2 had. I'm not surprised to seeing Fallout Online have the same style as 1 & 2, being it is being produced by Interplay.
Guess we'll see something by 2011, last I heard they had to be finished by then or Bethesda gets the license.

Yup, Fallout 1/2 were some of the best RPG games I've ever played too!
Never felt the urge to replay Fallout 3 tho. It's just not the same. :)

No wai! Tactics was awesome. It had that stuck-together-with-spit-and-duct-tape vibe you just don't get any more these days.

I'm not calling anyone out here so no need to come defend your honor. I am sure you pre-ordered and played the originals before anyone else in the entire world, but I would put money down that a great percentage of the Fallout 3 haters that claim 1&2 expert status, have never even played them.
I loved both Fallout 1&2 very much. They were great games, definitely classics. But I also loved Fallout 3 and I think Bethesda did the franchise justice.
Also I guess I should say I live in the DC area and I get a special thrill seeing all the highways destroyed, that may have given it some extra points in my book..

Yah. This battle between Interplay and Bethesda is irritating. It's like being asked to choose which parent you want to go live with after the divorce. I liked Fallout 1, 2, and 3. They were all good games, in different ways. Arguing which is "better" just boils down to the personal preference of the person arguing.

I like how it says "FalloutĀ® is a registered trademark of Bethesda Softworks LLC, a ZeniMax Media company, in the U.S. and/or other countries. All Rights Reserved." on that website.

All of the dropdown menus on the linked website page are blank for me, so I can't sign up for the beta or newsletter :( Maybe they check your IP address and are blocking certain regions - maybe this is NA only /shrug.

Its about time Interplay took back the franchise, after what Bethesda did to Fallout!
I cant wait to get back on nomutantsalowd and join the discourse with my fellow FANatics. Im sure their already discussing the viability of a "pre-war" add for Brahman...
Ive been waiting for a decent game in the series since 1998...

I felt weird giving my email address, something didn't seem legit. Maybe it was the odd hyphenation of the domain name, or the low-res bitmap looking textures or something... or maybe i'm just crazy.
I looked up the domain name and it's handled by a different company and isn't pointing to zenimax' name servers like all the rest of their web presence. Does seem a bit fishy. And would be a clever way for a fan to grab up a bunch of email addresses.
But the animation is obviously a bit elaborate to be anything other than what it appears ;)
Regardless,
very very very excited. I know there's a lot of old fashion franchise fans, but I hope it ends up being more like Fallout 3 than the others. The others may have been fantastic, but I want my sandbox.
