Cryptic Studios has officially launched the first Adventure Pack, entitled The Serpent Lantern, for their superhero-themed Champions Online MMORPG. What exactly is an Adventure Pack? Well we're glad you asked. It turns out that it's not quite an expansion, but it's also a bit more meaty than your average patch.
"The Serpent Lantern is our first Adventure Pack, a selection of themed content designed to plug seamlessly into your Champions Online play. Adventure Packs will feature new story lines, new locations and new rewards for you and your friends to enjoy. Think of them as a new story arc for your favorite comic book, only you're the hero in your own adventure," Cryptic says in their press release.
Whether you're level 11 or level 40, you'll find something new to do thanks to the new content. Check out all the details over at the official site.

Erm sorry but isn't the monthly fee supposed to cover development costs even on this medium scale? Feels like being charged twice for content to me just look at the content blizzard provides for the fee charged some patched come in at a few gigs.

It was going to cost at first until a ton of the community was outraged. I have little faith in Cryptic and their buisness model seems very problematic. I left this game after my free 30 days expired and I see no reason to go back. I still think City of Heroes is a far superior product but they are getting too repetitive.
I feel sorry for that poor community rep who was canned for telling players the expansion was going to cost $. I will not return to Champions Online until he is given his job back....AND gets a raise!

People need to get their facts right if they're going to insult a game. This was NEVER going to cost, you're talking about an expansion that back in January was briefly going to have a price. This adventure pack has been free since the beginning and they've stated that hundreds of times.
Oh well, facts are dull I guess!

you can't know if they would of charged for the adventure packs or not had they gotten away with charging for that first expansion.Maybe they wouldn't of but we know after the outrage about the first that they werent' gonna charge for any expansion for awhile at least.

At least one Cryptic game is getting content updates as a priority. All STO gets is microtransaction items on their store. I'll take an adventure pack over catgirls and furries any day.
