While we knew that the level cap was going to be raised soon in Final Fantasy XI, we hadn't heard much in terms of official details from Square-Enix. The silence has been broken, and while the official announcement neither confirms nor denies that the world's most insanely fit old man will be coming around for more limit breaking, it does offer a few interesting data points regarding the increase. This first round of increases will expand characters to level 80, complete with new equipment and newly relevant areas to suit those at the maximum level.
On the negative side, certain main job abilities are confirmed to be unavailable with the concurrent jump in subjob level. The White Mage "Afflatus" skills and a Ninja's Yonin and Innin abilities will be locked away from use by main jobs. A Ranger's Shadowbind and a Scholar's Accession and Manifestation skills will also be usable, but in a weakened state. Other than these limitations, however, it's full speed ahead for the expanded caps in Final Fantasy XI -- and we can only hope that the silence on a new limit break might mean there isn't one.

If I'm not mistaken Square-Enix commented already in an interview that there would be no further Genkai {Limit Breaks}, that the lvl 70 Maat fight was enough of a challenge to pass for most jobs.

Removing afflatus and the ninja abilities is lamentable, but makes sense from a balance perspective. (Like removing call wyvern for sub goon, though many people are still pissed at that.) Has there been any word about removing/limiting spells for support jobs? Or should I still expect to be always subbing RDM when I go a mage'ing?

Yeah, I'm glad they did this actually. Making scholar's acsession and manifestation be at full power as a sub would have been a mistake. The only reason people play scholar is for those unique abilities and a few others. So, I'm glad that they didn't ruin that.

Scholar's Accession and Manifestation are still full-powered, they just got 3x MP instead of 2x MP. Also, keep in mind that subjob Scholar doesn't get as many charges to use the abilities.
What worries me more is Red Mage as subjob... once the level 90 cap comes around, all of RDMs unique spells and abilities will be available for any job. What defines RDM will then depend on how they use their sub. (RDM/SCH would essentially be the same as SCH/RDM, except SCH gets the better deal.)
