I'm definitely looking forward to this. The last time I tried Vanguard the world seemed really empty. It will be nice seeing it populated like at launch time again.

Having killed Lich King and taking a WoW break before next expansion I've been trying other mmos and going back to old favorites like T1 Warhammer pvping or a few AoC and LOTR chars floating around.

I recently tried Vanguard trial and I gotta say I can see why this game still has a passionate player base (albeit small) and why is often cited as "the game that was almost huge". The game really is unique, fun and HUGE. I love a world with no instances, no zoning, no load screens. You get a sense of tremendous exploration that you don't get with instance heavy mmos like AoC or EQ2. Traveling from one place to a distant place is like an old school pen and paper D&D adventure in my head from when I was kid.

Diplomacy system in the game is really fun and a cool way to flesh out the lore of the local questing areas. I wish WoW would steal this idea and polish it up and add it in game.

I miss games that let you take your time and smell the roses with plenty to do. Every game now is just bonus xp! double xp! level faster! gogo!

I upgraded from the trial to the full version. Maybe the game will be dead soon, oh well. Perhaps all the server merges will give at least a spark of life to the game world.

A bigger development team and the time to work on this game could have put this in WoW's league. A shame...

"I love a world with no instances, no zoning, no load screens."

Insead of load screens the entire game freezes for a couple seconds while you move into another chunk. I fail to see how this is really better.

@rawr

That's cool, you can fail to see how it's better, but I don't fail to see how it's better. I'll take the small hitch between chunks any day, at least the game feels like a real world and not a bunch of instances.

Vanguard is truely one of these "If only they had time to polish it before they released it" games. I wonder what it could have been if it was done right.

Im playing it right now, just started again this weekend and Im pleasantly suprised how well it did come along after that horrible launch (that I was a part of for 6 weeks).

Im looking forward to the merger. Im just bridging this game untill FFxiv comes out, so I only need months. Dont care if it flops in a year or two.

Its a shame, this game looks like everything id hoped for, but i can't justify it if its all going to be for nothing.

SOE doesn't need a dying ass game like Vanguard to pad Station Access, not when it has The Agency, Clones Wars and the DC Universe games coming out. Vanguard's days are numbered, they are just gathering everyone together on the same server so it will be like shooting fish in a barrel.

I still think Vanguard had all the right ideas and just about every wrong everything else. I loved the diplomacy, the crafting mini-game, the art direction is great, but the biggest problem to me was, and still is, performance. It's like they built this thing on a sand trap and even years later I fall through the world and crash and give up. I so wish other games learn from Vanguards mistakes... but then warhammer still opened way too many servers at launch too...

It's really funny because them going down to a single server actually has me interested again. One world games are my favorite.

It's funny how for every game on life support, there's always some fan that has to say how the game is doing fine and there are people joining/returning by the day. Yep, games that are doing fine and growing always do server mergers...

Well the server merge still makes sense because only one of the four servers, Seradon, is really experiencing a population boom. Xeth is not a ghost town but does not have anywhere near the number of low level players that we host on Seradon. The EU and PVP servers are completely dead, having like 30-80 people on total during off peak times. So yes, there are people joining/returning by the day but players on the other servers are left out of the loop. Additionally, the server merges were announced/foretold long before this migration back to vanguard occured and I doubt we had any effect on SOE's decision.

The world of Telon is so vast, there should never have been 16 servers set up at launch in the first place and I am excited to start playing as a single server game ala EVE and the possibilities that will come with it.

Its even funnier when that one fan has not even been around for a whole month and thinks he knows WTF he is talking about.

ppl are talking about Vanguard's days as numbered ? Really ? The game has been dead from day one. No game with so horrendus issues and no proper support could have made it through.

It has been getting better. Ofc - but then... everything is better than what it was before.

I started the free 14 day trial three days ago and so far I like Vanguard a lot more than Everquest II... I am seriously thinking of subscribing.

What is the deal with SOE? They develop/acquire games with potential or inherent quality then let them tank.

I didn't experience the SWG CU/NGE first hand but I did see what they did to Free Realms combat.

The only common denominator is...(fill in the blank)

just want to say that I think this game is probably one of the best MMO out there, I've tried WOW several times and i get tired of seeing 20 players with the exact mirror image of my character and the lack of class and race choices and feature options just makes it worst, but most of all its the players and graphics, most people that play WOW are teens that are very immature and difficult to play with and enjoy the game, also the graphics make me think a 5 year old could draw a better picture, I enjoy the awesome graphics of EQ and VG but thats just me, if it dies it dies, but I would hope a game as good as this wouldn't people just dont know what they are missing
