They restarted Friends & Family testing, and will have a playable demo at E3 and other conventions. I would hardly call it vaporware at this point. It seemed to me they didn't like the feedback they got from early beta, and went back to the drawing board. Not to mention they are busy getting Lego Universe out the door which I'm sure has used some resources of theirs up.

I really have to wonder about this game. It was supposed to be released and just now your working on redoing it?

This actually gives me more confidence they can do a good job with this game. I wish Cryptic/Atari had the guts to do this with STO prior to launch.

Maybe I read it wrong, but what I saw said that they put on the breaks a year ago and have been redoing it since then. I commend them for pulling back to do what needs to be done to make a good game.

Thats actually a pretty honest approach about admitting the game was not up to par. I am looking forward to some E3 reports on this game.

Haven't they already done the "It all doesn't work, let's start over!" bit?

Ah well.

you know i remember playing jumpgate like in beta, of course that was many years ago. It was a pretty neat little game, nothing outstanding but interesting none the less.

Reminds me of Tabula Rasa... except I hope that, unlike NCsoft, they actually give it more than a year for it to catch on, because this is a type of game I'm really looking forward to.

Better delayed and decent than rushed refuse.

How does the saying go
A delayed game is only late once
A bad game is terrible forever

So I'd rather they take their time and hash it out as long as they don't go all duke nukem forever on us =P

Oh, ok, my bad. Massive combat in my books is something over 1500 people.
50-100 is just couple of guys dabbling.

In that case, it's probably still just what it was before - a small scale dogfighter.

So from dogfights to massive space battles?
Meh.
EVE already does a superb job on the massive battles.
EVE completely sucks with the dogfighting aspect though so I was looking forward to JGE.
Now, not so much.

Massive space battles with dogfighting. What makes you think that they are taking out the dogfighting aspect? That is the core of the game.

Yeah, sure, having 1500 people in the same battle dogfighting is going to work wonders. When we have QUANTUM MAGIC COMPUTERS!

1500?!?! Is that the number they are shooting for now? I really should read closer because I didn't see that in the announcement or commented on in the forum. Last I heard there wasn't going to be more that 50-100 per faction. Guess I'll just have to wait to see what their real plans are now instead of relying on the uninformed.

When they first announced the game (3-4 years ago) They said its new version of Jumpgate (a game heavily based on Elite,Privateer,Freelancer type of games)
And that the game is (because they are basically just slapping new graphic on old code) going to be released in 6 months.

3 years passed since. Most of the team was changed twice over. Creator of the game left.

Game changed from Freelancer style to some instanced battlegrounds space combat sim.

And now they are reworking it once again into something different (secret ?!)

Perhaps its time to change the name ?
