With its single-server structure, EVE Online is home to over 330,000 pilots, all playing in the same instance of the game universe. As subscriber numbers rise, EVE continues to set new records for the number of players simultaneously online in a single 3D game world. Records tend to be broken in the days leading up to or following a big expansion, usually during EVE's peak activity on Sunday evenings. The previous record of 56,021 set following the Dominion expansion was beaten yesterday with a peak concurrent user total of 60,453.
The high active subscriber levels we're currently seeing can be attributed to both the buzz caused by EVE's eighth alliance tournament and the newly released Tyrannis expansion. The main feature of Tyrannis goes live tomorrow, when the command centres required for planetary interaction will be seeded on the market. With two more weekends of the alliance tournament to go and the imminent Tyrannis land grab, we're sure to see this new record pushed even further in the weeks to come.

I have a corpmate who has nine accounts, which he has been known to play all of simultaneously. I have never seen or heard of him risking the attempt to use them all for the same combat fleet, as he seems to focus on using them to mine. They all have Hulks, but two usually have to run haulers just to keep up with the absurd mining rate, and I know at least one of them can fly the Orca and Rorqual.

The constant hatred for EVE astounds me. Is it because you don't like it? So you don't want it to succeed? Or are people just pricks?
(That should probably be rhetorical.)

Multiple accounts. Most serious contenders in EvE run more then 1 account, a hauler character to compliment a miner, a salvager for a mission runner, the list goes on and on. You can make so much money doing things that way you could pay for the 2nd account with the extra dough. Some people even take it to the next level and run 1 man mining operations using several toons for all the different responsibilities , seeing 5 miners/2haulers/2 armed escorts all being controlled by 1 person is not uncommon.
You can make enough cash doing things that way to easily pay for all the extra accounts, all it takes is a small initial investment then you're set. Im pretty sure thats where alot of those 250k + accounts are really being used for.

I'm still subbed to eve, but seriously it has to be one of the most boring games i've ever played.

You don't have to remain in hisec, you know. You could join a pirate corp. One of the former members of my corporation did that, and he's having a blast right now. EVE requires you to set your own goals; so if you think the game is boring, try setting yourself different goals.

I don't know why some people insist upon punishing themselves so. Unsubscribe if it's such a horrible experience!
EVE isn't for everyone, and that's okay. If it isn't for you, there are plenty of other games. Sometimes I play other games too! Why the need to spew vitriol?

And yet another article that contains useless troll posts from Graill, who despite not being emotional about the subject, has felt the need for more than a year to continually troll posts about EVE. And here I was starting to feel happy that you had dropped dead somewhere Graill. I suppose a man can dream.

Everyone,
Many posts in this thread are starting to get heated and are falling away from the topic at hand. Please keep your discussions to EVE Online and the recent 60,000+ concurrent user mark.
If you use profane language in your commentary, we will edit or delete it in accordance with our code of conduct. Constant attacks on other commenters are also not welcomed, no matter their opinions.
On a personal note, guys, please just remember, it's a game that's celebrating a pretty cool record. Hate EVE or enjoy EVE, 60,000 users online at once is pretty cool. I see no reason to viciously attack CCP over the report of a number. If you don't like the game, that's great, but there's no need for attacks such as these over the status of this MMO.
Express your displeasure and distrust, but please do so without ad hominem attacks or profane language. Thank you.
