Age of Conan, absolutely no contest. It's better than many epic film soundtracks.

Guild Wars has the best soundtrack. Jeremy Soule's work is simply amazing. Without offense, those that think WoW has the best one, you don't know anything about music. I had to mute the game while playing because the track transition is just AWFUL. If you keep switching between 2 areas the music suddenly stop and another starts, I just can't stand it. And the musics themselves aren't anything good either, looks like they were made by a 12-year-old.

I can't comment about EQ2 and FFXI(mentioned above) because I've never played them, but AoC's soundtrack is not bad, definitely better than WoW at least.

I'll agree that Classic WoW had mediocre music, but WOTLK has some of the best music I have ever heard in an MMO.

Definitely Final Fantasy XI , I can listen to music from this and any FF title at any time whether I'm playing the game or not.

Too Bryan above, Nobuo Uematsu only did a few tracks for FFXI, the bulk were composed by Naoshi Mizuta & Kumi Tanioka. Uematsu however is doing the entire FFXIV Soundtrack!

I love damn near every track in FFXI equally, with a few that are stand out amazing so not gonna link them all here, but I do have a playlist of some of my favorites you can listen too here ~ http://eldritcheponym.rpgdynasty.com/portal.htm

Hmm. I stand corrected. Still, add them to my favorite FF composers than. The FFXI music is just awesome.

Age of Conan, followed closely by Lineage 2.

FFXI without a doubt. Lots of games have pretty soundtracks (I love a lot of LOTRO's and WoW's scores), but FFXI is so diverse, and moreover, evocative. They actually fit and tie into the area, rather than just being a pretty Howard Shore soundalike theme.

At the top of my list is the Guild Wars OST, but since it has already been linked to several times, I'll instead link songs from my number two, EVE Online.

Usually, when playing the game, you can choose to turn on the 'Jukebox' and listen to a number of very atmospheric songs, such as this one.
Red Glowing Dust: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_J4H3o2om7c

However, the real fun starts when you use an Acceleration Gate (not a Stargate) to enter a special mission area. The songs that may start playing when you do so, are normally not available in the jukebox, and are usually more upbeat than the atmospheric music.

Vanguard: SOH, and World Of Warcraft.

Even though I no longer play (due to low population / lack of time for a 'serious' MMO), I listen to the song from Ahgram (VG:SOH) every now and then and get tears in my eyes, just remembering crossing that desert on a camel, defending our guild galleons in the port, or causing trouble in the taverns.

Also, the soundtrack to grizzly hills (WoW) is pretty damn amazing too.

EVE Online - "The Rose of Victory" by Jon Hallur.

One of my favorite pieces of ambient music, game or not.

LotRO - "Silent Hope" by Chance Thomas

The music played in and around Bag End.

Certain WoW tracks are amazing:
The Sin dorei
Stormwind
Elwynn Forest
Dun Morogh
Echoes of the Past
Song of elune
Main title track for Vanilla WoW and BC (WOTLK is good, but not as memorable to me)

I would also add as a sleeper hit, Runes of Magic has some of the best in-game music of any game

Warhammer Online, the high elves and greenies had the most epic soundtracks, and the chaos were just downright chilling.

I did like Warhammer's music, BUT, they didn't place it correctly. You rarely heard anything different through most of the game. They didn't have small zone in each zone with different music which hurt the immersion and the really good pieces I found were in far off zones in tier 4 that no one really traversed much.

Check out the music on the good elf side in tier 4. The dark elf side too. Just awesomeness.

Horizons had some great music. Can't find a link online, but there were some tracks that were mandolin (or something like that) that I can listen to forever.

Hands down World of Warcraft (check out Blizzard's Echoes of War album) but there are alot of great gaming soundtracks!

To name a few, even if your not that interest in the game particular:

Metal Gear Solid
Assassin's Creed Series
Surprisingly Battlefield Bad Company Series
Uncharted has a great Indiana Jones feel
If you don't mind slightly less quality (not Orchestrated), Super Smash Bros Brawl / Mario Galaxies / Legend of Zelda all have AMAZING music.
Mirrors Edge has a sexy soundtrack
and one of the best soundtracks is the Mass Effect Series.

Just my 2 cents.
