Evil carnivals, Rogues that build traps, and flying guild halls. If you can't find something to love in Dungeons and Dragons Online Update 5, you're not looking hard enough. Turbine announced today that Update 5: Rise of the Guilds will arrive June 28th, bringing with it a huge list of updates and a brand new adventure pack.
The update is centered around guilds. Guild renown, guild trophies, and the long-awaited guild airships will all arrive with this update, encouraging guilds to work together to earn them. Before those of you in OneDAwesome even ask: Yes, we'll be chasing all of these shinies as well as the adventure pack.
Watch for this Friday's Exploring Eberron when we will we take a closer look at the update, but for now check out the details and new screenshots on the DDO site.

Hey, by the way: As a new player inspired to try the game from all the things I read about it on this site(and loving it), what would I have to do to get an invite into ODA?

This looks great. Hopped back over to DDO recently to give the new freemium model a try and so far so good. Only level 4 but so far I'm loving the no subscription payment model and buying adventure packs that I want. Seems to be a lot of content in game and it's nice to see it's still being updated with pretty solid content.

"Still" isn't a proper word here - since re-launch, Turbine delivers new content faster and more timely than ever. Plus, it's usually better polished or bigger overall than it used to be. Most likely they've got themselves a bigger dev team, which would be very wise with all that recent success of new DDO.

Looks to me like this is announcement is a convenient way to distract us from the unacceptable outcome of the week-long premium account downgrade snafu. No explanation, no apology, no compensation, just "Hey, look at the cool stuff coming in Update 5!"
