Break out the underoos, superhero fans, as another tights-flavored MMORPG is nearing release. Sony Online Entertainment's DC Universe Online is flying your way this November, and will be launching simultaneously on the PC and PS3 platforms.
IGN has a preview of the game, including a brief look at DC notables like Harley Quinn, Robin, and Nightwing. If you've ever wanted to take missions from Bruce Wayne, or explore the streets of Metropolis, SOE has your game. They also apparently have some notable voice actors lined up to breathe life into the virtual DC-flavored playground. "A Sony Online Entertainment rep said that the company wasn't ready to announce voice actors yet but that you should expect familiar folks behind the characters you know," IGN writes.
Check out the original article, as well as the official DCUO website.

I do like how this is on the PS3 as well. Might be a good competitor to FFXIV.

Finally. Been wanting to try a console mmo. Imo champions would be great on a console. This is great news.

And they have yet to update their website with any kind of information that leads an MMO player to want to purchase their product.

Very nice. If true it will be good to see a MMO finally launch for the PC and a console at the same time. I have been looking forward to this MMO for a long while, all the more so since CO turned out to be a bit disappointing.

Microsoft really shot themselves in the foot by killing the release of Champions on 360. They're as bad about MMOs as Nintendo is bad about...everything online. :p Now Sony gets the first new console MMO since FFXI.

I think Wisdomandlore means that DCUO will be launching before FFXIV, making it the 2nd. :3

November is 5 months away, and most of the information currently available looks like early development stuff (dev chats, concept art, basic screenshots) and a few summary trailers... and no detail information, no gameplay mechanics, no beta invites.
Are we sure they meant November, THIS YEAR!!!
They either been very tight lipped about their development progress, marketing has dropped the ball labelled "hype it", or publishers are telling them "release it now"

E3 is in just a few weeks, so I guess this announcement was set to coincide with that. What I assume is, they are going to drop a ton of information on us at once, at E3, and announce beta, features, etc. then.

Again saw the new video on Gametrailers and it looks so bad, SOE really have gone to *expletive deleted* since they ruined SWG.

A post from Jens Andersen. The footage in the video is very old, from NYCC 2009 back in Feb 09. You'll see up to date footage at e3.

Everything about the character creation, powers, etc sounds great but then I see the gameplay and it looks horrid to me. Even the graphics don't look like they;'re anything special. Hopefully what I've seen so far aren't the highlights for this game because it would be nice for a superhero MMO to draw in a large crowd and be successful.

DCUO is in an interesting spot. There's tweo other MMOs out there; CoH which is suffering badly from age and seems to be largely deserterd (40,000 subs at last count) and CO which has pretty much tanked on launch. If it can demonstrate consistency of gameplay and content, then DCUO could take this slice of dmographic pie easily.
