Star Wars Galaxies is pulling out all the stops in an attempt to rope former subscribers or the casually interested back into the game. The long-running sandbox title pushed Hotfix 16.11 to the live servers yesterday, and with it an event called Bonus Everything Weekend.
From now until until Tuesday, June 1, players will accrue double XP, double Galactic Civil War points, double Battlefield and Invasion tokens, double Chronicles XP, double Chronicles Silver Tokens, and an increased chance to earn Gold Chronicles and Bonus Heroic Tokens. Grab your friends and enlist in the game's Heroic Encounters, as the Heroic Tokens can now be used to purchase the new Jabba's Sail Barge player house.
Check out all the details over at the official site.

Glad to see their still working on SWG though. I'm interested in seeing this new house.

Okay that screenshot is very cool, where in the game is it from? I don't remember a huge hangar with a dozen AT-ATs and AT-STs and TIEs.

It's the hangar bay of the Star Destroyer heroic instance/encounter. I forget the name, it's been a while since I took it.

Wow, I was gonna guess that but I've never been there. It looks VERY impressive. I don't suppose the AT-ATs are attackable bosses are they?

Unfortunately not. As I recall it was a horde of dark troopers and then some bridge officer boss.

In my opinion, the ISD instance is one of the most fun instances in the game. That hanger is just pure eye-candy, though. You run through it. You don't even do any fighting there.

I know a sure fire way to grab some additional subscribers...

If that ever happened, I would be back in an instant. As it stands, I'm tempted, but not sold. I remember hating the combat. Being completely unable to target adequately destroyed it for me. Unless I was missing something.

I'm certain they would net a ridiculous amount of subscribers by doing that, however, they're too stubborn to go back on their "improvements to the game".

It wouldn't net a ridiculous amount of subs but I bet even if they only did it for a single server that server would be the most populated one there within a month or two. Not like that is anything worth bragging about but it would definitely increase subs and I'm pretty sure they still have the code laying around :)

"The long-running sandbox title......"
That makes me laugh. There is nothing "sandbox" at all about SWG anymore.

Eh, I think you're wrong. They took out professions and skills, granted, but the social game, the crafting game, and the storytelling game is light years more advanced than anything other than Ultima.
Sandbox means make your own content, and no game allows you to do that better than SWG. It's also one of the few games that has meaningful non-combat play, which is another sandbox hallmark.

I hate when MMO's decide that "double xp weekends" are going to be their solution.
If you have to give out more than normal xp to draw players in, then your games xp curve is too strong in the first place. Making a permanent 10% decrease in required xp per level, even if it's say only for certain levels, makes a lot more sense to me as a draw to players. If it's only for a weekend, then once the week/weekend is over, it's just back to the same ridiculous amount of grinding.
Then again, I'm an end game player. Leveling can be fun, but when I finally finish and realizing there's nothing to do, I don't go back and level all over again. It's just not a good use of my time. I'm looking at you, Bioware with your SW MMO and the press information saying how people are going to want to play back through the leveling over and over. I think it's one thing to pay a monthly fee for a sandbox game that let's you interact with others, I think it's something different to pay a monthly fee so you can level all the possible classes to max in a near single player environment.
Maybe Bioware is onto something though. They're going to grab all of the WoW addicts that don't like raiding, and provide the best possible game for them with no need to raid to improve your character.

I have to agree. "Bonus" XP is a very poor marketing gimmick. It really exposes the problems with a game. Your game should be fun at any level, not just at the end game. I can understand new players wanting to catch up to the majority of the server population levels. In those cases you need to do what Bliz did with WoW and perma boost the XP at lower content levels.
Give me a game that is fun no matter what level I am at even with a slow level curve then a game that is designed to have a carrot hanging ahead of you for your play motivation any day.
