Yet another unheard of MMO blatantly ripping off WoW's art style. Way to be innovative Battle of the wow clones, err Battle of the Immortals.

You can cry "fanboyism" all you want, but you can't deny that the armour in that screenshot is very similar to Shaman armour sets in WoW:

Um, no. It isn't even close to that shaman armor. The only thing that is remotely similar is the "spikeyness" of the armor. To which I say: go sit in a corner while the adults talk, fanboy.

Oh, and that comment was in no way meant to "make you want to hate it." I've not played Battle of the Immortals, so I can't comment on the game itself. My comment was purely based on the look of the armour in the screenshot. But then, I've not played WoW in a long time either. That's really beside the point, though.

My comment has nothing to do with fan-boi-ism or lack of diversity in the games i play. I'm very serious, i looked at the concept art, then the video and if someone didn't tell me it was a different game, i would have thought it was from WoW.

It's not that it looks like WoW's "mage armor" or "shaman armor" Take a few steps back and look at the overall style in the above media and you'll see it. It's extremely similar, from the emphasis on shoulderpads to the overall silhouette & even color saturation, it's WoW.

I don't play WoW anymore, but I distinctly recognize the art style. Come now, calling someone a fanboy for recognizing similarities is ridiculous; that armor set is blatantly inspired by WoW.

Now, BoI looks entertaining. Hell, I might even pick it up when it gets out of beta.

But the armor is...heavly "inspired". Don't call the black kettle a petunia.

I've played WoW for a while (only since mid 2006), and downloaded BoI on Friday and have been playing it most of the weekend.

While there are elements you might recognise as being similar to WoW (like frame background colours, buttons), BoI could never be said to be a WoW rip off. It's some ways it's alot more simple (auto routing for NPCs and quest objects), but in other ways it has alot more ( a crafting system that only starts to get revealed at lvl35, but you can have one character with all professions, given enough time).

The major difference is the classes are alot simpler, and the view port, whilst having a zoom in and out, is only an isometric view with 360 degree spin around you as the focus... you'll never see flying mounts in BoI.

As Free To Play MMOs go, BoI doesn't play too badly and I'll probably give it alot more play time than I did to DDO or Perfect World International.

Oh, and it's quick, too. Only been playing for the weekend, and I'm up to lvl 38. Things might start to take longer at the higher levels, but it wont take 4 days of played time to hit max level.

@Birk, pick it up now.. it's available and indeed, fun!

Whatever happened to armour art that didn't have lightning/fire/clouds/rain/ice/smoke shooting out of every second pixel?

I mean armour art in fantasy games, since I'm aware that MMOs like Fallen Earth do not have such flashy armour (at least I haven't seen any in any screens, don't play the game so not sure if there is actually such armour in it).

Warhammer has fairly subdued armor, as does Planes of Telara, at least from current screens. It's still out there, just uncommon and becoming more so. :)

I totally agree with that sentiment, Knob.

One of the very big pluses of LotRO at the moment is its realistic armor. No "floaty sparkly bits", but I think floaty sparkly bits are really for insecure people who need to ... compensate ... for something. ;)

It looks stupid and my first thought was it reminded me so much of Nyhm's song "Grind" where he mocks "Mr. Blizzard Shoulder Armor Guy". As he so accurately comments, the only thing larger than our shoulder armor is our egos.

So I have a question for you WOW players...do you troll Blizzard boards when Blizzard uses armor inspired by anime, manga, and pnp role playing games? Cause that's where blizzard steals their ideas...This game may look like WOW but it also looks like it was inspired by asian entertainment media...I'm going to guess WOW is not their chief source of inspiration since the game also comes from asia where animated films, live films and printed media has had similar armor and weapons years before WoW ever entered the picture.

I thought it was generally accepted that Blizzard doesn't create anything truly original. I mean.. hell, Warcraft was created based of the Warhammer IP.

Just because it's 'tired' doesn't make it any less true. If you're going to critique one company for 'copying' you have to be critical of them all.

This game ripped something else off WoW: work disguised as gameplay. I would rather ACTUALLY WORK than play this game. At least by working I'd GAIN money instead of spending it -_-
