Maybe with the new money from WB Turbine can finally add some spark to its games.

Despite the really nice scenery - LOTRO falls short at engaging the players into the game play as much as the story. It doesn't have that "just cant wait to log in - have to keep coming back" quality that WoW does for example.

DDO was just a bad design that has been improved a lot but still lacks for a real system of cohesion and group-centric progression.

AC like EQ is just running out of shelf life.

Turbine obviously has great artists - maybe with this money they can make some more long-term engaging games also... probably a positive acquisition for players overall.... hopefully they fire the DDO moron dev that decided originally people wouldn't want XP for killing mobs ... that was about the dumbest idea in MMO history.

I'd hazard to say the appeal is probably a combination of WoW's more colorful palette, more responsive and visually refined UI, and an approachably primitive gameplay that compensates by exposing its mathematical models.

There's no denying that appeal, but I hope that does not come to pass in LOTRO. Because the price is losing LOTRO's excellent and engaging gameplay that has for the most part avoided reduction to solo content facerolls and skill-rotation monotony prevalent in WoW.

You couldn't possibly be more wrong. WoW is abominable, uninspired DIKU crap. AC and DDO are two of the best, most original MMO designs brought out by ANY company, and the fact that Turbine managed to come up with both of them says wonderful things about them.

Seriously, if you like WoW, GO EFFING PLAY WOW. Those of us who enjoy actual gameplay rather than poopsocking to the next ding will be playing Turbine games.

LOTRO's a great game. I find the combat and general questing to be superior to WoW or EQ2. All three games have their benefits, but IMO, LOTRO is still the best.

And even though I love it, I don't subscribe anymore. Why? Turbine just can't supply enough content. Ever since Moria, they've been falling more and more behind. The huge, quarterly updates of the past have become smallish patches every 4-6 months. And Turbine keeps upping the level cap, trivializing old endgame content without replacing it with enough new content (the Skirmish system, while fun, doesn't feel meaningful in the long run). The game needs a new, big expansion, at least on the level of MoM, but focusing on endgame content and providing fun, meaningful things to do. But it doesn't look like the game will get a new expansion until at least 2011. And by that point myself and many of the subscribers will be in GW2, SW:TOR, FFXIV, Tera, or Rift.

He recommended them to support OnLive, and they listened...?

Oh dear is right... there is a reason why OnLive was grabbing for money, and that's because Gaikai is set to ruin them. Now if he got WB to support Gaikai? I'd of given him a hi-five...

Suits/corporate whores + game studios = death.

RIP Turbine.

First meeting -

Jeff: so, how can we squeeze more money from our player base?

Turbine: well, we'd love to improve our games, make newer games.....

Jeff: slams his first on the desk; "we have shareholders that want results, I have a trophy wife at home that requires breast augmentation, botox and lipo". "Fuck making new games, that shit costs money". "Now go shut down some servers, insert micro transactions into every game and make me some damn money".

"he convinced them to invest in OnLive"

This is supposed to be a ringing endorsement of this guys business sense? lol

God help Turbine now.

Turbine made their bed now they can deal with it. Not my problem. Who wants to make a bet that LOTRO will have a store within the next 2 years? No wonder why the expansion was so little in comparison to Mines of Moria. What a joke. It is all about the Benjamins now. I really hate the LA culture.

The moment they introduce a cash store is the moment I stop playing the game. Which would suck, being that it is my fav MMO.

Sigh. Another desk jocky calling the shots in a game. It's be beginning of the end for Turbine. The article is even written with the tone of "Turbine is now WB's bitch".

Been nice playing with ya Turbine. Way to sell out.

I love LOTRO. I played a WOW for a long time, but LOTRO suits me so much better. It is prettier and there is much less grind. The Quests and the story are much better too. I am not a big fan of WB, so I hope they dont screw anything up.
