Well, delays aren't always bad news. It's a small studio making an ambitious game. I'm just glad things are still moving in a general direction with this one.

I think that Mortal Online needs to follow in their foot steps. A delay is better handled when communicated to those anxiously awaiting the game. Looks like Dawntide will be the first of the new sandbox games to be released.

StarVault have delayed the game for 9month.
I think they don't need more delay

I wouldn't hold my breath on Dawntide releasing anytime soon. As for Xsyon, it just looks like yet another indie sandbox scam (remember Mourning/Realms of Torment, DnL, Mortal Online), where they set a release date, sell some preorders, and then delay the game's launch to continue on with the development funded by a bunch of suckers. Why would anyone pay for this? People's stupidity never ceases to amaze...

@ColRoofles

Dawntide is supposedly going into open beta on the 31st of this month. Not saying you are wrong but I'm kind of hoping you are. :P

Darktide is in early beta stages and it's progressing slowly. They've got a lot of good ideas and the game has a lot of potential (but then you could say that about pretty much every game out there...), but the reality is that half of the game doesn't work / hasn't been implemented yet, and the other half that does work, performs very badly. A release date 1-2 months from now is simply unrealitic. Hopefully, this open beta is going to last a few long months, which should give them enough time to somewhat finish the game and release it in an acceptable/playable state.

I made the grave mistake of preordering this game. I have access now so I've checked it out. It's beyond terrible.

Alan, right now very few of the features are turned on because the focus is on testing server stability and performance. As stability is ironed out, they will be turning on feature after feature to test it on the live server. Then the head start will begin and the game will go live.

You're just acting like the other children who preordered for free beta time, and are now whining because you are expected to actually take part in the testing, rather than run around acting like a troll for the next few months.

Omali,

You mean those "awesome" features that you have not seen personally, video or screens of?

I think you should brush up on the history of "Dark and Light"

Can you go into details, Alan? The features list is very impressive, but the gameplay videos I've seen are less so. It sounds like an amazing concept, and I'd love to know what it does/doesn't do right.

From looking at that screenshot above, I would say this MMOG will fail. The character faces look flat and why do all the trees look flat on the top? Come on guys...

Are the characters making gang signs?

Based on the SS on the top this game is meant to be released at least 6 years ago. Not having the budget for super high polycounts is one thing, but when it just looks like the characters have no emotion is another.

SWTOR characters have the same bland emotionless faces and no one seems to notice. Just saying.

@contact:

I run an MMO website that deals directly with closed MMOs, I know about Dark and Light. The major difference is that Xsyon has not released yet. This isn't head start, or even beta really. It's a way for players to help testing the game's features, as they need to be tested. Right now they are testing stability and lag. You can't judge a game as "terrible" based on such a tiny portion (logging, terraforming, and small amounts of crafting).

Also, don't put words in my mouth. I never said "amazing," I just don't tolerate trolls slandering titles like Alan did and you support.

The players complaining bought a product that was supposed to have launched already. They were promised early access immediately prior to launch. Instead, it turns out that they paid for the privilege of beta testing a game that's not launch-ready and won't be for months. They have a right to be upset.

I applaud Notorious' desire to not release until the game is stable and feature-complete and I appreciate their level of communication. I truly wish them the best. That being said, selling preorders to a game that had never been beta tested (it was allegedly tested in-house only, which is synonymous with alpha testing, not beta, which is when testers outside the development team are granted access to the product) and for which no in-game screenshots or video footage existed is a very poor business practice, IMO.

I was extremely critical of Notorious when the game was announced and preorders were offered and I was skeptical of their ability to deliver by April. Unfortunately, I was right. I wish I wasn't, because it sounds like it could be an amazing game if they get the opportunity to complete it.

Everything that is currently in the game, including combat which you left out, is terrible. For those that haven't watched, check out some in game videos, there are plenty of them as of now. I figured that the videos didn't do the game justice when they first came out. I didn't get in the first round of invites based on my preorder date, but I have had access for a few weeks now. Unfortunately, when the game was actually playing on my screen, I was dumbfounded by how clunky and dysfunctional the features are. The videos actually made the game look better than what it is.

Let's remind ourselves what Xsyon (lead developer) told the community approximately 2 months before the original (April) release date:

"EVERY feature on the feature list is either 100% complete, or 80% complete"

Now we're looking at MAYBE a August release date, with the game currently in an alpha stage at best, with only 10% of the massive feature list working at best.

When I heard about this game it sounded intriguing to me; the videos I have seen don't make the game look that great either. Lately I have heard more bad than good about it so I won't bother with it unless I get a chance to check out the beta test or there is a free trial sometime after release. I already went through the Mortal Online pre-order/beta debacle and after trying it out throughout its stages and it is still a fairly poor product. I won't be putting any money up front to try out Xsyon that's for sure. Too bad because the concept sounds interesting.

Just to note:

I've been in Dawntide beta since some-where last year (beta 1). the game is chugging along slowly but surely. the developers are very active and wile the game is DEFINETLY not ready, or close to ready for release. the beta is very much chugging along. just check their website for the multi-weekly patch notes. join the IRC channel for chit-chat and funny bugs along with the devs or just pop on the forums, as there is no NDA to shush shit up.

i think many of massivly (and generally mmo) reads and players have been spoiled by "beta"s like Age of Conan, Star Trek, and so on... where "beta" = preview.

Dawntide, Mortal Online, Xyson and several up and coming other games are really BETA. they are broken on all ends, the developers are systematicly giong through things and once in a wile just saying fuck it and throwing in a re-vamp.

Dawntide for example went from No-skillcap + decay to a Hardcap, from boring WoW based combat to a totally strategic (though only partly implemented) system of timing and planning.

dont write of games based on Beta's... but ffs, dont pay for beta's either.

also to note:
when a game is 2 weeks from release by god dont expect a miracle patch. they dont exist. there are no hidden features, no "xp for beta boost" and by sure as hell no "they will revamp this on release day" shit.

it.does.not.exist.
