I read the letter. The only thing they're promising is that double XP weekends won't be every other weekend. Energy of Salvation still is unclear, and it's anyone's guess how much the XP boost to quests will be (Keep in mind they had a patch in November to help with the XP rates on quests, it didn't work).

The smart money's on waiting until the week after June 2nd when players get to see it firsthand and in action. This letter says nothing new.

30% bonus if you're slowly leveling, but are online for long times. The bonus exp will be applied to everything, from gathering to killing to quest exp, and the slower you level, the more "bonus points" AKA longer bonus exp you get.
Read the patch notes ;P

Awards experience bonuses the longer you play? Like the longer you're subscribed or online?

If it's the latter, isn't that kind of politically incorrect in the MMO world right now? Rewarding unhealthy playing habits?

From what I was told by NCsoft, you get energy of salvation for playing longer in a stretch. Do more in a play session, and you'll begin to rack up Energy of Salvation, kinda like daeva points for experience.

If I am not wrong, by reading the patch notes, it will work like this:

You play, play, play, play. After like 30 minutes of gameplay your energy of salvation fully fills up, activating itself and giving you bonus experience for the next 30 minutes. We're probably talking about set amounts of experience rather than time.

Just completing my previous comment, after that the energy of salvation will be back from zero, which will take another 30 minutes or whatever set amount of experience they have set up.

It's not stacking, as in, after 10 salvation fill-ups you'll be getting 10x experience rates or something like that, because THAT would be promoting unhealthy gaming habits and I seriously doubt it's setup like that :P

2. Energy of Salvation has been added.

Characters who have progress slowly from level 15 despite long connection times and continuous in-game activity will now obtain bonus EXP through the Energy of Salvation.

Characters who receive the Energy of Salvation will receive Energy of Salvation points at set time intervals.

Energy of Salvation points are automatically used during hunting, collecting, crafting, missions, quests, and PvP, and will boost earned XP by 30%.

Unused points disappear 10 minutes after logging out.

@Seraphina -- Is it possible to find out more on this new "Energy of Salvation" system that is referenced.

I find it unconscionable that a game company would introduce a mechanic that rewards their customers for unhealthy and potentially dangerous playing practices. I really hope it doesn't work the way it sounds.

If it does, they've crossed a very dangerous line in my book.

You're in the wrong genre... Rewarding for unhealthy practices is a core feature of MMORPGs

That was my first thought upon reading it. The best XP boosts are those that come in short bursts, not long, because it helps players moderate their playtime rather than becoming unhealthy and glued to their computers. For NC Soft to put in the polar opposite of WoW's Rested XP system, they are catering to a singular demographic, limiting their already limited subscribers, and playing right into the hands of the Aion critics that say the game is already too timesink-heavy, even for an MMO.

I think complaints of this promoting unhealthy habits are bunk. As Bdew pointed out, MMOs all promote unhealthy habits. Some are just less unhealthy than others.

Aion already features a function similar to rested XP that accumulates anywhere, not just in cities. The problem is that the amount of XP you earn for that is minute compared to just continuing to grind when it runs out. Even with rested XP, a casual player is looking at months of play before they can participate in any of the major activities, such as fortress raiding, rifting, open PvP in the Abyss and earning end-game armor.

All this will do is encourage players to log in and sit around their home city for half an hour while alt-tabbed before doing anything, or feel like they need to play for an hour at a time when they'd normally play more or less. Neither of these are rewarding or fun.

If they have them, they'll save up all their campaign quests, sit around in their home city, then turn them all in at once to get that 30% bonus. It's unintuitive, easy to screw up, and fails to address the problem with tedium of grinding.

NCSoft just needs to give up with these weird, complicated solutions and cut the XP needed to level by about 25% for each level after 25 and 50% after 40. Then get rid of the PvP penalties for level so players can actually participate in sieges and rifting when they hit level 25 rather than being pushed to keep grinding. Do both of these and you'll see nothing but positive reactions. It might not save the game, but both steps will be seen as unequivocally positive steps.

1.9 isn't going to bring back any players. June will see another drop in subscriptions just like every month before it.

Double XP weekends are a quick band-aid fix for the insane grind that resulted from a lack of quests/leveling content, I don't see how increasing the amount of XP quests give makes this any better when it's content that's needed OR a drastic reduction of the amount of XP needed from level to level (you know, how you need about 14 million XP to go from level 29 to 30).

From what I know of the game, it needs double xp weekends ALL THE TIME.

They obviously did the double xp weekends for a REASON in the first place... because they knew the grind was horrible, so why not make it permanent?

BECAUSE THEIR STUPID

So energy of salvation gives you 30% more XP for some amount of time, how is this a fix compared to double XP weekend were you have 100% more XP all the time ?
Even if they double the XP from quest and double the number of quests it is not going to matter much if you still need 90% of XP from grind in order to level up.
I say that in 1 month of the 1.9 release they will start again with the regular double XP weekend every 2nd weekend.

For someone who never played Aion and just took all his information from other posts and put them through the hyperbole and faux machine or made them up , you have quite some bad stories to tell about this game, your alts on this and other sites included.
